Higher Service

Post by Cindyinthe6 »

Ella and Etta had been AA friends for all their sober lives. After many years of trudging, they were nearing the end of their road of happy destiny and they started to discuss existential questions like, "Is there an afterlife?" and "If there is, do they have AA meetings there?"

They made a pact and pinky-swore that whoever died first would come back in spirit and tell the other one whether there were meetings in heaven.

Ella died first, and the night after the funeral Etta lay in bed, sleepless and sniffling, when all at once she felt a chill and saw the ghostly form of her old friend at the foot of her bed.

"Nu?" she said. "So tell me already, what's it like in the great hereafter?"

"Well," replied Ella's ghost, "I have good news and bad news. The good news is, there are AA meetings in heaven. There's one about to start right now."

"So what's the bad news?" asked Etta.

Ella sighed. "The bad news is, you're tonight's speaker."

I can't wait to get to the Big Meeting.... and see all those people I hated during my early years of sobriety.

 =biggrin that sentence didn't end the way I expected - I love it! Thanks! I'm still thinking I want to see departed loved ones when I get there, but you're talking about a whole different dimension! I love getting new perspectives like that 👏
