Re: Twenty Four Hours A Day May 16th

Prayer changes things for you. This is my experience. I have to be careful I do not pray with expectations because expectations are still just resentments waiting to happen. My serenity is inversely proportional to my expectations. (BB pg 452) So then my prayer becomes Willingness to surrender to w...

Re: Shame is a favorite weapon of our disease

I hadn’t visited this site for a long time before recently returning from a hospital stay (both medical and rehab). My new sobriety date is April 15. I saw this post thread on shame, began reading the first post, and identified immediately. I thought, “I know exaclty where this AA is coming from.” ...

Re: 14th May Daily Reflection

I was once a temp sponsor on this site, but having been thru the Steps with 2 different sponsors face to face I remain convinced that sponsorship is really a knee-to-knee project. I am grateful that I get to have such a face & knee contact with my sponsor this weekend! It is a kind of accountabi...

Re: Twenty Four Hours A Day 14th May

I pray that I may not expect complete understanding from others.
When I read that I was like: WHAT?!? Why not? Then I read it again and saw the word: EXPECT.

Ohhhh I pray I may not EXPECT... ad infinitum!

Re: 13th May Daily Reflection

True! "... a disease that has fueled most of my bad decisions and behavior."

I never really resonated with "in denial". I was literally blinded. I think I did the best I could at the time, but that does not make it right.

Re: Twenty Four Hours A Day May 13th

I wish I had more time to write today, but I wanted to say 2 things! My sponsor likes to say, "Let God fill the spaces between you," when I have a problem with a personality. and Somewhere I read, "God is an interpreter for us. We all speak different languages." THAT really hit h...

Re: 12th May Daily Reflection

A.A. experience has taught us we cannot live alone with our pressing problems and the character defects which cause or aggravate them. If . . . Step Four . . .has revealed in stark relief those experiences we'd rather not remember . . . then the need to quit living by ourselves with those tormentin...

Re: Twenty Four Hours A Day May 12th

Turn out all thoughts of doubt and fear and resentment. Never tolerate them if you can help it. Bar the windows and doors of your mind against them, as you would bar your home against a thief who would steal in to take away your treasures. What greater treasures can you have than faith and courage ...

Re: Step 2 Spiritual Guidance

This is a great post. I am wondering if you are being a little too specific with the concept of “God’s will” for you. My understanding, which of course is not guaranteed to be right, is that he doesnt have a specific day to day or moment to moment will for me with regard to my decisions, activities...

Re: Step Two: No North Star

Been sober 43 years and still don't have a definition for God. Ijust know its not me. There are a couple of thousand different religions with their of definition. Making up another one makes not difference. Or, Just don't worry about it and just try to help others. Wow such an important distinction...

Re: Twenty Four Hours A Day May 11th

Me too Brock. I like to remember that this publication is from a treatment center and not AA Conference Approved Literature. Even so, all readings are but suggestions and I get hinky at some of the ideas. "Letting group members down" seldom came to mind when I was in great turmoil. I am no...

Re: Twenty Four Hours A Day May 10th

Calmness is trust in action. I should seek all things that can help me to cultivate calmness. To attain material things, the world learns to attain speed. To attain spiritual things, I have to learn to attain a state of calm. I like this. My sponsor says that God's will is always calmness. I will f...

Re: Military Requirement

This was the first time I have been on the floor of a concert since being sober and it was a completely different experience. Alot of what happened was more of an annoyance, and I hate to think that I used to be that guy, but I was. I sure am glad that I've changed. Ahh yes... Drunks can be soooo a...
