Re: Resolving FEAR

I have to practice giving up my fear to my higher power. For me, it's regular practice, and i have to remind myself regularly to give it up. I find it liberating and weird that I keep on having to remind myself to give it up. When i forget to give it up I seem to have "issues".

Re: race and culure

Brock thank you for the polite welcome. I think what I am curious about is how the recovering community feels about the hot button topics of privilege and intersectionality. For instance some could and will argue that as a white man perhaps I bear some historical resposibility for introducing alcoh...

Re: Pain Medication

Hello I just wanted to post here I have a question. I have an abscessed wisdom tooth and I was prescribed antibiotics and pain medication to take until they can extract the tooth next week. I've been taking the pain medication as prescribed by the doctor. I've never had a pill problem, and I'm not ...

Re: Back to work ...

Alcohol can exacerbate anxiety and depression and anxiety and depression can be a driving force to "self-medicate" - drink alcohol for some people. One can cause the other - Or you could have both as It's also possible to have a propensity towards alcoholism and have anxiety and depression...

Re: Step 4 issues

Sometimes people go back out on step 4 because they are alcoholics.

Same with steps 1-3 and 5-12.

When people say I can't believe so and so went back out after (however long),.... I can believe it, because they are alcoholics.

Re: Sooo, how exactly DOES someone stop?

I've quit 100's of times lol. Cold turkey: sometimes i get a little sick with just a little vomiting and such, sometimes seriously ill and ended up in the hospital after 4 -5 days of vomiting and shakes, got so weak and dehydrated had a seizure. Been to reahab under medical supervision - Ativan, lib...

Re: Judgement & Resentment in Sober Housing

How could you let go of resentments in that kind of situation? Understanding, compassion, and healthy boundaries. Some of the people around you may still be very sick, still in the grips of the disease. You could understand that couldn't you? Having compassion doesn't mean you have to let it slide t...

Re: 2 step one questions

I believe this was more geared towards accessing physical progression from a medical point of view so I just left it be and moved on but thnx Correct. Various medical / psycho-social questionnaires use a wide variety of questions like this to assess whether someone may have a problem with alcohol. ...

Re: Step 4 expected to take up to a year

Hi everyone, The way I've been shown to do step 4 is extremely thorough, not the way in which I see others at AA meetings doing it, and im told it is likely to take over a year, purely on step 4 alone. I've been working at it consistently every day since May, and I'm not even a quarter of the way t...

Re: Fatigue in early recovery

Many experience fatigue early on, I did. I did quite a bit of reading on the subject and this is what I found: Sleep can be greatly affected including the amount and quality for weeks, months, and some a year or more after quitting. Circadian rhythmes and normal hormone function is disrupted - even ...

No. There are other sick people. Where we are at fault is carrying the resentment. We drain lot of energy. Forgiveness is an option but Our mind endures lot of pain before we look for solution. Great topic. Spot on. ^^ Like when an acquaintance decided to "borrow" my car without my permis...

Re: looking for advice

I was also a binge drinker in my early and mid 20's, not a daily, that is until I became a daily drinker in my late 20's. With many of us it is a continuum, that only gets worse. If you think you might be an alcoholic, you're better off addressing it now before continuing down the rabbit hole. I wis...

Re: Unmanageable?

My question is how many of us actually reached "unmanageability" or how many, like me, were functioning ok but could see "unmanageability" up ahead, and still had it together enough to get a grip on things in time. -Mike Manageability is subjective. The book lists things that co...
