Thought for the Day
Keeping sober is the most important thing in my life. The most important decision I ever made was my decision to give up drinking. I am convinced that my whole life depends on not taking that first drink. Nothing in the world is as important to me as my own sobriety. Everything I have, my whole life, depends on that one thing. Can I afford ever to forget this, even for one minute?
Meditation for the Day
I will discipline myself. I will do this disciplining now. I will turn out all useless thoughts. I know that the goodness of my life is a necessary foundation for its usefulness. I will welcome this training, for without it, God cannot give me His power. I believe that this power is a mighty power when it is used in the right way.
Prayer for the Day
I pray that I may face and accept whatever discipline is necessary. I pray that I may be fit to receive God's power in my life.

Re: Twenty Four Hours A Day January 6th
I celebrated 40 years of sobriety about a month ago. My dry date day went by and I forgot all about it. Reading this above quote this morning hit me hard. I guess I had "more important things on my mind" on that day. In terms of importance, I hope from this day forward I carry first and foremost my sobriety as the most important thing in my life. If I do that all other important things will fall into place.Keeping sober is the most important thing in my life.

I ask my sponsees to write their sober date in the front of their Big Book and cherish that date... "You don't want a new one!"
Congrats on all the ES&H acquired in 40+ years!

I have a slightly different take on this, like Dave I tend to forget the day when it comes up and actually don’t think it’s important. Yes it’s vitally important that I remain sober or I would lose everything, but sobriety for me means a lot more than what it says in the writing -
Giving up drinking and staying away from the first drink are only the first part of contented sobriety, I know when I am falling off the beam not because I feel to drink, but when I am no longer content. This business of staying away from the first drink I feel is for newcomers, and I cringe when folks with years of sobriety say it. Because if I was a newcomer it would give me the impression that no matter how long we are sober it’s still a struggle to avoid drinking, and the AA I know is far more powerful than that.Keeping sober is the most important thing in my life. The most important decision I ever made was my decision to give up drinking. I am convinced that my whole life depends on not taking that first drink.
