... The Lighter Side of Sobriety
That one is pretty heavy, so I might have to ponder it for a while! ;)

Two of my grandchildren recently had parts in a stage play, and it was very encouraging to me to later talk with them and discover neither had been trying to run the show. They knew their own parts well and right along with also knowing the parts assigned to others, and now in another few weeks I hope to see a DVD of everyone just playing and supporting their own roles together. I can imagine there were moments of adaptation or even a bit of ad-lib, and today it is nice to be able to do that whenever necessary for the sake of the show and without breaking role.

That phrase says to me, 'I'm never really satisfied'.

Having a Spiritual malady, is not fun.

I can certainly relate to that. 18 months ago, I was drunk every day, and barely functioning. Now, I work, rarely have time to breathe, in between single parenting, kids activities, AA stuff, shopping, household duties, you know, all that stuff that non alcoholics do on a day to day basis without really breaking a sweat......and they have relationships and social lives too. Go figure

It seems to me to be a period of adjustment, and thankfully it's gradual. It's a bit overwhelming coming out of an alcoholic coma and re integrating into the real world. It shakes everything up. Everything I believed I was incapable of doing, or undeserving of, is now happening. I definitely have 'eeek' moments, because it's just not normal for me , yet. It's new and strange....and I'm a creature of habit. I'm going to keep going though, because I'm interested to know what my potential actually is! I sold myself short, for far too long.

It's easier for me now to accept these changes for what they are - good, if a tad uncomfortable, like a new pair of shoes, than it is to sit immobilized by fear that those shoes MIGHT really hurt. Then again, they might not hurt at all. Never know unless you try!
If you could kick the person in the pants responsible for most of your trouble, you wouldn't sit for a month -

If I am not open-minded I cannot see opportunities to be of service, whether it is to the clerk at the store or an alcoholic who is suffering.
