"I do not need to make amends on my hands and knees;
I need to walk tall, without false pride.

this will remove the burden from my shoulders."

I need to walk tall, without false pride.
Those are the sort of words I like to hear and see written in AA. I was attending meetings for a long time without committing to the steps, then one Sunday morning at a 12 & 12 step meeting we were doing step 9, a fellow called Sheldon asked the leader to forgive him giving a small quote from another book, then he spoke these words from chapter 6.
As God's people we stand on our feet; we don't crawl before anyone.
That was like music to my ears, because I had misinterpreted all the talk I had been hearing about humility, and thought that the AA steps would turn me into some little meek person, and I didn’t want that.

I left that meeting walking tall indeed, and proceeded to do the steps.
"Good morning, this is your Higher Power speaking. I will not be needing your help today."

Then, I can get into the stream of life and out of my own way.
Honesty, open-mindedness & willingness = HOW
THEN ... :)

Ain't that the truth...While coming into AA and plopping yourself in a chair and doing nothing qualifies you as being a member...And I see that a lot. There are quite a few requirements in those directions to becoming recovered. While it's nice we have such an open door policy...In my opinion it sure doesn't hurt to feel completely hopeless and fully desperate. It tends to get the wheels spinning.
