June Grapevine Quote of the Day

Post by Todd M » Fri Jun 03, 2016 8:46 am

June 3

"I am finally learning really to live one day at a time
and to appreciate and be alert to the beautiful, marvel-filled,
albeit sometimes infuriating world around me.
This is a startlingly pleasant reward."

Wonderfully relatable! A thought very similar to this crossed my mind today while out mowing the lawn. Before, it would have just been something annoying getting in the way of my drinking, but today I so enjoyed being outside, getting something useful done for my wife. It was a surprise and quite a lovely feeling. :)

I love this style of quote. Not living for the future, but living for the day. The time right now is what it is important and our choices now are what matters.

I realize that my zigzag, erratic, and inconsistent course

This quote reminds us of how futile it is to control aspects of our lives, including recovery, since we'll overall travel in the direction that Higher Power desires for us if we want to stay sober. This 'truth' doesn't relieve us of the responsibility to exert effort in our recovery, but reminds us that we need to make room for a Higher Power to work in our lives. I love the relief from fear and self-centeredness that comes with not being in complete control. Great reminder, thanks!
