What Bill and/or Bob might have to say...

Got an issue with someone or something? Want to whine a little? Here's the place to do it, or to get to know folks, or ask those questions that don't fit anywhere else.

What Bill and/or Bob might have to say...

Post by leejosepho » Sun Apr 17, 2016 9:00 am

The following rules and suggestions are items agreed to by the group conscience, to promote civility among contributors, and keep topics on point.

...

‌•‌ We offer our own ES&H and avoid critiquing the shares of others.

http://www.e-aa.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=20141
In my own case, I have no "ES&H" of my own to share other than my own permanent recovery from chronic alcoholism as a result of embracing and practicing "our combined experience and knowledge" (page 19) along with the many who came before me:

"...wrecked in the same vessel...restored and united under one God, with hearts and minds attuned to the welfare of others..." (page 161)
"The tremendous fact for every one of us is that we have discovered a common solution. We have a way out on which we can absolutely agree, and upon which we can join in brotherly and harmonious action. This is the great news this book carries to those who suffer from alcoholism." (page 17)

A request for those who might share something different: Please do not misrepresent the idea of "a god of your own understanding" (nowhere shared and therefore never to be found anywhere within our Basic Text) as having come from any of us. We staunchly defend anyone's freedom to believe and to do as she or he might choose, of course...

"If he thinks he can do the job in some other way, or prefers some other spiritual approach, encourage him to follow his own conscience...be friendly. Let it go at that." (page 95)

...and we need say nothing more here on that matter since our book was written to keep our original-and-unique A.A. message still available to all...

"...the first portion of this volume, describing the A.A. recovery program, has been left untouched in the course of revisions..." (Preface to Third Edition)
‌‌• ...we try to be reasonable in the amount we share on one particular topic. A limit of two or three contributions is advised.
Sadly, that will end up being used as a "gag rule"...but we have no complaint. If a prospect might still not want what we have or might not yet be quite willing to do what must actually be done, we certainly do not wish to hound or to brow-beat or try to convince anyone against his or her own will and thereby foolishly "spoil a later opportunity." (page 90)

you had different experiences while working Step 4 than I did. We may have all come to the end promises, but you and I worked the Step in a different manner, had different emotions and used different tools. That makes your experience different than mine.

Just to add to what Paige said with respect to the posting of the Forum Guidelines under the 'admin' banner, this only appears because the guidelines were under the names of various trusted servants, and a decision, (principles before personalities), was taken to change that. Also the moderators were able to condense the wording by removing some that were repeated in different threads.

These guidelines have not changed, and are the condensation of what previously existed in the 'Start Here' section, as a guide to newcomers.
Sadly, that will end up being used as a "gag rule"...
No, this was discussed when this suggestion was originally added, and all moderators will be cautious. Items like this may serve mainly as a reminder, if someone is acting like a teacher as has happened here before, they post something someone replies they answer, over and over ad nauseam, then a moderator may refer the person to that guideline as a reminder. Trusted servants have the trust of the group conscience to at their discretion “gag” a person, by deleting a post or as a last resort banning.

Almost 100% of trusted servant function is to try to keep the forums spam free for the enjoyment of all, nobody likes having to enforce any guideline given here.

My approach to and experience with Step Four was no different than that of anyone else who has done what is shared and suggested in our Basic Text, and in the original A.A. there is but one "combined knowledge and experience" shared by all.

We will see, but I am highly doubtful since the initially-personal idea shared by one or two that just two or three posts per thread should be sufficient and/or even a self-imposed limit has been floating around here for quite some time...and now we have it in writing for all.
