The principals for each step

Post by Dan2000 » Thu Jun 23, 2016 8:12 am

Having had a spiritual awakening as a result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to alcoholics and to PRACTICE THESE PRINCIPLES in all our affairs.

Step 1... Honesty

Step 2...Hope

Step 3...Faith

Step 4...Courage

Step 5...Integrity

Step 6...Willingness

Step 7...Humility

Step 8...Unconditional Love

Step 9...Justice

Step 10...Perseverance

Step 11...Spiritual Awareness

Step 12...Service

Remember, in all we do, it's Progress not perfection.
Remember in all we do, it's Progress, not perfection.

I was in a Big Book Study that expanded on those principles a bit:

Step One.................. Honesty, Acceptance & Admittance
Step Two.................. Hope & Belief
Step Three................ Faith, Trust, Decision & Surrender
Step Four.................. [action] Courage
Step Five................... Integrity, Wholeness & Sincerity
Step Six.................... Surrender & Willingness
Step Seven............... Humility & Teachability
Step Eight................ Brotherly Love & Forgiveness
Step Nine................. Discipline, Judgement, Prudence & Wisdom
Step Ten.................. Restitution , Continuance, Perseverance,
Dependability and "What-is-right" not "Who-is-right"

Step Eleven............... Awareness, God in everything
Step Twelve............... Conviction, Service without reward -
questioning the price we pay, Love, Compassion, Gratitude & Sharing.

I always think of Step 1 as humility.

Humility to me isn't to be confused with servility; like going down on my knees to bow in front of some King (Kings liked you on your knees; it's a very difficult position to attack someone from); so - for me - humility is simply understanding the nature of reality. The reality that I realised was that I was powerless over alcohol and my life had become unmanageable.

I got that as an experience and I realised it.

Maybe the list should go like this?

Step one - Humility
Step two - Humility
Step three - Humility
Step four - Humility
Step five - Humility

You get the idea.
Come, come, whoever you are. Wanderer, worshiper, lover of leaving. It doesn't matter. Ours is not a caravan of despair. Come, even if you have broken your vows a thousand times. Come, yet again, come, come.” Rumi (No sniggering from the sex addicts)

My sponsor JUST wrote this out for me at meeting last night. Apparently my HP wants this in front of me right now. Thank you for the share and the subsequent discussion, I'm sure what I am meant to absorb is here :)
