Re: A Newcomer Packet for You

New to AA? Got questions? Here's the place to ask. Note that no one person speaks "officially" for AA. AA meetings in your local area are always the best source of information. Note that anyone may post and reply to messages in this forum.

Welcome Elizabeth!

That link gives you an unknown AA member -- feel free to read the shares here and approach any woman privately for sponsorship. Sometimes someone just clicks and it's great to take action.

I've made use of about everyone here. Joining a group is just as important as having a sponsor. It's a we program!

Welcome Elizabeth! Glad you made it back! I was sober for a while and then out again for 17 years - quite the slip, eh? I have been back for a while now, using both face-to-face and online AA. I know you will find what you are looking for - don't quit before the miracle!

Voice In A Bottle

I’m in a bottle made of glass
How I got here, one might ask
It happened slowly as I boozed with friends
Then drugs appeared to cause an end
My family worried to see me in danger
I wore them out as I played with strangers
Deeper and deeper into the bottle I went
While I fought with loved ones for these so called “friends”
Lying became I habit I often used
To hide the truth of physical abuse
I wanted help, Lord knows I tried
But the secrets grew greater and greater inside
Help me! Help me! I so often shout
Please help me someone and get me out.
I then heard a voice inside the glass
My son, my son, you need only ask.
Let go of your fears and all your fright
My hand is out so hold on tight
There’s a better world outside this glass
We’ve got some work let’s start the task
Shed yourself of anger, hatred and fear
Build on love, joy and all that is dear
Release evil thoughts and blow them away
Develop sound thinking and invite it to stay
Make up your mind and seal it with your heart
Today is the best day to make a new start.

There is the online intergroup site, you could google and find lot of resources for online meetings. Good luck. I will load my mp3 with lot of speeches too.

First time here.. Haven't drank in 4. Days. I'm not an everyday drinker but I know I have a problem because when I do I can't stop.

Welcome PokerGurl1967, you are in the right place. Yes as an alcoholic the best indicator is that realizing that we cannot stop on our own. We in AA call in obsession/insanity. Thats the key part of powerlessness over alcohol. Please look around and post questions. If you can grab a copy of the book Alcoholics Anonymous at a lolca f2f meeting, it will be great.

You may also read it on-line at:http://www.aa.org/pages/en_US/alcoholics-anonymous

Hi my name is Andi and I'm new to this whole on line AA thing. I hope to meet some positive and amazing people!!! :)
I've been battling addiction for a long time. I was 65 days clean, but now I'm 35 days clean now. I take a day at a time. I just can't talk or hang out with my old friends so I'm feeling pretty solo right now. I hope to meet people on here that understand what I go through on s daily base.
Thanks for reading this.

Welcome, Andi, and you might be amazed by A.A.'s definition of "positive":
If your talk has been sane, quiet and full of human understanding, you have perhaps made a friend. Maybe you have disturbed him about the question of alcoholism. This is all to the good. The more hopeless he feels, the better. He will be more likely to follow your suggestions. (page 94)
So, please join us in some "sane, quiet and full of human understanding" discussion of these kinds of things many of us have experienced:
I've been battling addiction for a long time. I was 65 days clean, but now I'm 35 days clean now. I take a day at a time.
That had never worked well or for very long for many of us either.
I just can't talk or hang out with my old friends...
Neither did that. Me minus friends was still me, and I was my real problem.
...so I'm feeling pretty solo right now.
That is why we are here, and now we are no longer alone while together walking a path that truly goes somewhere.

Hello there....Lynn is a 60 year old alcoholic...binge drinker...vodka straight....no glass, right out of the bottle. I have no stop switch when I get going and my binges can last a good week, till Im so poisoned I am forced to quit. I have been sober 10 days now and decided last weekend to go back to AA. I was a member 25 years ago so when I went to my first meeting last Monday it felt like I had just been to a meeting last week! Found a outstanding group and really enjoy going. I went 5 times last week. Going to a 10:00 am meeting this morning. This looks like a great site and forums. Hope to stick around and meet a few folks. Thank you

Welcome Lynn, Thank you for sharing. Great to hear you are getting to meetings, hope the forum helps too. It's here 24/7 which is a big bonus in early days.
Don't know exactly where I am going but I'm on my way and it's already much better than where I've been.
