Desperate?

New to AA? Got questions? Here's the place to ask. Note that no one person speaks "officially" for AA. AA meetings in your local area are always the best source of information. Note that anyone may post and reply to messages in this forum.

Desperate?

Post by PaigeB » Fri Jan 11, 2019 12:38 pm

We learned that we had to
fully concede
to our innermost selves that we were alcoholics.

This is the first step in recovery.
The delusion that we are like other people, or presently may be, has to be smashed.

ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS, p. 30
Normal people don't get it. They do not think like us and cannot imagine how we think. Talk to another alcoholic TODAY.
THE 100% STEP
Only Step One, where we made the 100 percent admission we were powerless over alcohol, can be practised with absolute perfection.

TWELVE STEPS AND TWELVE TRADITIONS, p. 68
Step 6 is "AA's way of stating, the best possible attitude one can take in order to make a beginning on this lifetime job... with most of them we shall have to be content with patient improvement." 12&12 Step Six, p.65

That is why they are considered "normies" and we are drunks!
Work hard, stay positive, and get up early. It's the best part of the day.
