Re: Where to Go?

Hello rickabo, Ditto what has been posted. You say you are scared that you can't turn the switch off? Well, it might be suggesting that you are out of control with your drinking.... You just can't do the first two steps and say, now what? If you really honestly worked the first and second step the a...

Hi 1stpriority, Lali hit it on the head.. I got myself involved with a group once a week CODA, 12 step study.. (Codependents Anonymous) The flavor is a little different for sure.. Re: In a self-made ditch without a shovel, help

Hi Andrew and Welcome, I also echo the advice posted by avaneesh, clouds, and Brock... The Big Book along with tapes and a supporting sponsor will help you understand how it works.. Recovery is a personal journey. You just have to be willing to try and make the changes that are necessary to get the ...

Re: Beware hard drinkers inside.

This has been an ongoing circumstance for quite a number of years at the AA meetings in my area. We have groups that call themselves an AA group that defer the Big Book, actually have their own leaflets if you will. They call themselves "Chemically Short Changed." They are very rigid and if you spea...

Re: Beware hard drinkers inside.

I wanted to believe I was a hard drinker or just someone who just would have a lively bender now and then, The truth is my drinking was continuous ... I tried stopping, for a period of time.. I couldn't get past a day sometimes.. I got introduced to AA by the courts on a DUI charge.. I was pretty dr...

Re: Beware hard drinkers inside.

This is supposed to be and I believe it to be an "Honest program". When they arrive on the door step of AA are we supposed to question them or to ask them to admit that they are indeed "Real Alcoholics"? That is the purpose of the "Open AA Meetings" Designed to give a view of AA and what it's single...

Re: Sobriety, Is it given or do you still struggle!

I do see your point Stepchild. I know there wasn't much hope for me at the end of my drinking. I was scared had no idea what I was going to do now that I had removed alcohol out of my life. My friends and some family members thought I was taking it a bit too far because they were still in their own ...

Re: Sobriety, Is it given or do you still struggle!

Well I know that phrase has been said at meetings, The BB illustrates that no matter how far down the scale you are there is still hope for recovery.. I can really understand the resentments that spouses and family members would have after trying everything they knew to get the drunk sober and stay ...
