Re: Happy Birthday Alcoholics Anonymous!

I'm blessed to live 25 minutes north of our birthplace. It's beyond words to describe the feeling of being with 10,000 of us and Akron's Finest saying, "hello, thank you, please, enjoy yourselves." :D It's even cooler still to be among 2,500 motorcycles parading through Akron to Dr. Bob's grave unde...

I'm in the same boat as everyone who shared already. Hope, happiness, and usefulness as the result of taking the steps, carrying this message and practicing these principles.

Re: AA Newcomer Sponsor Struggle

The only things I did right my first year or so in AA was not drink and not hit my sponsor. :D He exposed me for what I truly was and it was painful. At that time I would respond to pain with violence. Once the fog lifted a bit and I began taking the steps I began to see he was right. He love...

Re: AA and religion.

I understand how you feel. I can't even share the honest thoughts on the topics of God, religion and its people I had early on. They are too vulgar, ignorant and clouded by the alcoholic insanity and unmanageably of my life back then. I was given the book Alcoholics Anonymous and told to read, study...

Re: Sobriety without the steps?

AA has no monopoly on God, recovery or anything else for that matter. Our book even says so. However, it is the most reliable method of continued sobriety, but there are others too. In fact, How it Works even intimates that nothing in AA, even the 12 Steps is mandatory, " Here are the steps we took,...

Re: rigorous honesty

Pretty straight forward for this alcoholic. "The man I was will drink again" and that man was a liar, cheat and a thief.

Re: One Beautiful Day, One Downer of a Dillema

I'm not sure what I'm doing here. Am I in the wrong place if I know I'll be drinking again? Well..if you want to stop drinking and stay stopped one day at a time, AA is the best game in town. If you need help with other problems you might do well to ask yourself, 'do I really want a bunch of drunks...

Re: Fallen flyer

It's tough when we first come to accept our illness under the weight of consequences. You're not alone. When you have a chance, read this story out of our AA Big Book.

Re: Marijuana Maintenance

Just about anything can be 'mood altering' and they're not all 'bad'. I run because I like the way it makes me feel and for the health benefits, so yes it's mood altering. What it isn't is ILLEGAL. Regardless of weather or not we think pot should be legalized, it isn't (in many US states anyway). An...

Re: still find it hard to accept

Like you, I struggled mightily with the concept of powerlessness and being an alcoholic at 18 (actually 2 months shy). I saw all these old timers and listened to them talk about losing cars, jobs, houses and families and just couldn't relate. Looking back I was comparing myself back to the bottle. W...

Re: There's one thing I don't understand...

When we saw others solve their problems by a simple reliance upon the Spirit of the Universe, we had to stop doubting the power of God. Our ideas did not work. But the God idea did. ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS, p. 52 This was taken from today's Daily Reflections and is perfect for me. I couldn't stop drin...
