Re: (2014-03-01) BB Study -- We of Alcoholics Anonymous

Thank you for your comments! Our book starts off with the most important word-WE. Collectively we can recover and stay that way if we follow the program outlined in the rest of the book. The first sentence also tells us what we recover from. I'll never be grateful enough for being free from the obse...

Re: Problems with a sponsee

Practical experience shows that nothing will so much insure immunity from drinking as intensive work with other alcoholics. It works when other activities fail. This is our twelfth suggestion: Carry this message to other alcoholics! You can help when no one else can. You can secure their confidence...

Re: Habitual or alcoholic

A few things come to mind. Alcoholics suffer from the mental obsession when not drinking. Alcoholics can't stop drinking once we start (physical compulsion). Alcoholics can't stay stopped when we do try (obsession). It doesn't matter if I think someone is an alcoholic, or anything else for that matt...

Re: How many times should I read the big book?

To show other alcoholics PRECISELY HOW WE HAVE RECOVERED is the main purpose of this book. - Forward to the first edition If I want to stay recovered, I have to stay in the book. My sponsor has been sober for over 50 years and he still reads it. There are members of my home group with over 20 years...

Re: Do you ever feel sad because...

Empathy is a sign we're getting better. I didn't give a flip about another when drinking and even into early recovery, now my heart can break for another.

The problems I have with AA pale in comparison to the problems I have with alcohol.

Re: Recovering or Recovered.

WE, OF Alcoholics Anonymous, are more than one hundred men and women who have recovered from a seemingly hopeless state of mind and body. To show other alcoholics precisely how we have recovered is the main purpose of this book. These are the first two sentences of our basic text. I have recovered ...

+1 billion! The only time we look down at an alcoholic is to offer a hand up.

11.—Our relations with the general public should be characterized by personal anonymity. We think A.A. ought to avoid sensational advertising. Our names and pictures as A.A. members ought not be broadcast, filmed, or publicly printed. Our public relations should be guided by the principle of attrac...

Remember, his sex life is NOT our business. Even if he tries to bring it in, it is an outside issue. I couldn't agree more. As much as 13th stepping is against our Principles, so is playing AA police or God. I would continue to pray for him and those he may have harmed and hope his sponsor, home gr...

On the AA level, the 2nd ( For our group purpose there is but one ultimate authority—a loving God as He may express Himself in our group conscience. Our leaders are but trusted servants; they do not govern. ) and 4th ( Each group should be autonomous except in matters affecting other groups or A.A. ...

Re: Anniversaries and Length of sobriety questions

In a Fellowship that has been built upon one drunk helping another to ensure his or her sobriety, I'm thinking we should still focus our efforts on the new person regardless of how many days we have behind us. Not that we should stop counting our blessings...
