Re: New here. looking for some help

Hi Sharon,

Three days is a big deal for people like us. There a lot of good people willing to help you here and at meetings in your neighborhood. One day at a time is how we do this, so keep it up!

God bless,
Steve

Re: Should the Big Book be revised?

When it ceases to be the most reliable treatment for alcoholism, revise it. Until then leave it alone. People may question its effectiveness these days; however, it was never intended to treat problems other than alcoholism. There's a story in the current edition called 'Window of Opportunity' where...

Re: Sponsoring for the first time

Like Paige, the first person I sponsored died as a direct result of our disease. One of the hardest things was to help his mom with funeral arrangements. Still chokes me up over 25 years later and I hope it always does. My sponsor reiterated the ABCs and said that no human power means no human power...

Re: recovered but never cured

Foreword to First Edition This is the Foreword as it appeared in the first printing of the first edition in 1939. WE, OF Alcoholics Anonymous, are more than one hundred men and women who have recovered from a seemingly hopeless state of mind and body. To show other alcoholics precisely how we have ...

To be doomed to an alcoholic death or to live on a spiritual basis are not always easy alternatives to face.

But the freedom of spiritual living is beyond anything we can find in the bottle. Good luck and God bless!

Re: quick and dirty

Our book is meant to be suggestive only. We realize we know only a little. God will constantly disclose more to you and to us. Ask Him in your morning meditation what you can do each day for the man who is still sick. The answers will come, if your own house is in order. But obviously you cannot tr...

“Alcoholics Anonymous has no opinion on out- side issues; hence the A.A. name ought never be drawn into public controversy.”
As others have said, this is a 'to thine own self be true' matter, IMHO.

I am sorry for his passing and the pain felt by those he left behind...including you. I hope we all remember that derision is not one of our principles.

Re: Transference

To stay sober useful and happy I have to remain centered so-to-speak in recovery (steps), unity (meetings) and service(traditions). When any of these are missing I seek to serve Steve with whatever's available including spending money.

Re: After 27 years…Do I really have to start over?

What's more important - some day in the past when you stopped drinking, some piece of plastic; or the way you're living today? Drug dealing isn't one of our principals. Look to Steps 10, 11 and 12 for help.

Re: Jesus and (or vs.) 12 Step's Higher Power contrast ?

I've stayed sober with Jesus as my higher power and without. Regardless of who I chose as my higher power(or who chose me), taking the 12 Steps to the very best of my ability was imparitive. As a result, this promise from page 55 of our book came true. The consciousness of your belief is sure to com...

There are some great ideas in the Spiritual Experience appendix. The essentials of recovery would make for a relevant topic.
