Re: hate speaking in front of groups

A couple of things I've done are to have a trial run in your mirror at home. Tell yourself your own story out loud as if your image is your audience. It helps prepare as well as taking a lot of the fear out of it. When you're there, find a friendly face in the crowd and talk to them. It's usually ea...

Re: Relapsed after 9 years of sobriety....

Welcome Lisa. What I can tell you is that I've never seen anyone return to anything but a very warm welcome in my area. I can also share that my experience is that the continued connection with my fellow alcoholics has always been essential to my peace of mind. So, from my point of view, the sooner ...

Re: if God gave free will to us, why do his will? (no disres

I think the simple answer is that if we don't freely choose to take loving action (God's will), it doesn't mean anything. My first thought or instinct of what to do is not always loving or even nice sometimes. If I hadn't made the commitment to do my best to conform my will to my higher power's, I'd...

Re: The 4th step. Tell me your experiences and tips, please!

The outline in the big book is what I followed. The only thing I did slightly differently, was to keep a log of my negative emotional responses to life when they happened over a period of time. Like in the book, I wrote down what I was feeling, what was going on and who was involved. Later, I came b...

Re: Emotional baggage...

Welcome Ringo-Bingo. My experience has been that the program has given me honesty about and acceptance of my emotions. It was pointed out to me early on that feelings are something we have to cease fighting and turn over just like difficult people and situations. As others have already related, it's...

Re: Trying to get better

Welcome BruceWayne87. I can tell you my experience. I hope that helps. I tried every method of limiting or controlling my drinking imaginable. None of them worked to give me the peace of mind I sought. Frankly, to this day, years later, I still can't imagine a reason to drink expect to get drunk eno...

Re: Walked out of two meetings this week

A much milder version of this happened at a meeting I attended some time ago. I called for a group conscience meeting and we worked it out. It hasn't come up since.

If the group's important to you, make the effort. You never know what will happen. Just be prepared to accept the result.

Welcome Jsalz16. Good for you. It's can take some time to connect with others at the meeting. The only certainty is that you won't if you don't go. So again, good for you for keeping at it. This place can be a good resource for you in between times. Don't hesitate to go back and look at older thread...

Re: Happy Birthday Duke!!!

Thanks folks. I celebrated Saturday with my home group of thirty-two years. No cake, but plenty of donuts. I tried bringing oranges one year and got booed out of the room. It's good to be one of many.

Re: Can a geriatric teetotaler be a latent alcoholic?

It seems that the simple answer is that if a person never drank alcohol, they can't be defined as an alcoholic. That doesn't mean, however, that they can't or don't suffer from the save spiritual malady that alcoholics suffer from. I know many who have and do. I also know several very successful and...

I don't know any of the circumstances of your life addictedto.youu, so I don't know what options are realistically available to you. What I do know, is that the solution for me came through working the program of Alcoholics Anonymous. I found where to find a meeting that fit my needs by getting on t...

You've asked for opinions michmjon, and you've gotten them. I don't know if they'll help you or not. Personally, I'm not interested in opinions about things like this. I really just want to know if others have experience with what I'm asking about and what that is. My experience is that I have used ...
