Re: July 4th any staying sober

Hi Amy. How'd your fourth go? Well, I hope. I was just talking to a friend this morning about this topic. I'm one of those blessed to have had the desire to drink removed after my first meeting and yet to return. But, I have had plenty of times that situations I've gotten into have made me uncomfort...

Re: Misconception of outside World

Thanks positrac. Like you, it's hard for me to separate my early sobriety from my meeting attendance. I'm glad the thought did not occur to me in my early years to question whether I really needed all those meetings or not. The squirrel cage was active enough without chewing on that one. On the othe...

Re: Group overspent and in debt

I haven't had this one happen. Frankly, I can't imagine any entity selling us anything on a promise to pay. But, never say never. Miscommunication happens. As long as you're taking responsibility per the group conscience, I can't imagine what else you could or should do. Since it involves money, I w...

Re: my gratitude to aa

Thanks Pete. I appreciate you sharing that story. I had the privilege to celebrate two thirty year birthdays today. One of the fellas came once a long time ago. He promptly went out muttering, got stinking drunk and just about killed himself driving. To this day, he says he has no way to explain why...

Re: Is it ever too late? 67 year old an alcoholic for 30 ye

Welcome worrieddaughter. I've seen worse cases than your mother's find sobriety through the program of AA, but as Positrac put it, it won't work if she doesn't want it and it can't reverse actual physical damage that's been done. I hope you have or will explore Alanon. I attended for several years a...

Re: Struggling Newcomer

Thanks for sharing. I did not have cravings, but I also pursued the program and the steps with the same passion I brought to drinking and trying to control my drinking. For me that meant a meeting every day, regular lunches with my sponsor, and a whole lot of reading and writing. I must have read al...

Re: Newcomer. Hit the drink...again.

Welcome noob. Take the plunge. You'll never regret it. And, you will get over the anxiety before you know it. Come here too, by all means, but face to face is what most of us need on a regular basis. Listen for the similarities. I'm sure it'll feel like home in short order. I hope to hear more from ...

Re: Fatigue in early recovery

Actually, I had more of an issue with being able to go to sleep early on. However, my experience is that it is very common for people to experience changes like this. I wouldn't make too much of it unless it becomes a serous health issue. Things will settle down and you'll find your new normal. Glad...

Re: Will I ever feel excited again?

Welcome Littleone. I can't tell you what your experience will be. I can tell you that in my time in the program, I've had more than one time when I've felt as you described. I've found that as soon as I get out of myself and focus on service I can do for others, I stop wondering about when I'll feel...

Re: Big Book Meeting's Readings

I'm getting lost in the opinions about what others say and do. Simply ignore. Okay, but seriously, why does your opinion about his opinion qualify for different criteria? I really don't get it. I'd like an answer. Don't worry, I know how to ignore the meaningless banter, but I don't understand how ...

Re: Big Book Meeting's Readings

So far it seems like a competition to see whos right and wrong regarding the big book. Guess I'll move on. So you couldn't resist opinining about the thread? Thats the power of the egoic mind. If you had noticed, it was civilized exchange. Nobody was eating each others out. And it's not for you whe...
