Re: Need help

I went to my first AA meeting yesterday and all I kept thinking was hurry up, your eating into my drinking time. That's how alcohol is affecting me. Each drink demands more of itself -- a physical craving -- while we are drinking, but alcohol is not what drives a desire to drink -- our obsession fo...

Re: BB pg 100-101

One of the best times I ever had around a campfire was with two friends who were drinking their fills of beer from their cooler next to my cooler of Mountain Dew, and they really howled when I ended up being the one who stumbled over the firewood while on my way to a tree. Anyone's drinking had not ...

Re: BB pg 100-101

There are two things going. Majority of the people still think they have a choice in their drinking. Meaning they don't focus on the "queer mental twist" that leads to that 1st drink. They only focus on powerlessness AFTER we take that first drink. Thats why we have all those cliches... Yes, and th...

Re: Sponsorship Question

It has been brought to my attention that a newcomer (or perhaps anyone) to A.A is not required to have a sponsor. Correct, but then I would have died drunk if I had not found someone who both could (where some cannot) and who would (where some would not) teach me how to live. So while no A.A. membe...

Re: BB pg 100-101

I think part of the problem today comes from people believing or thinking A.A. is about not drinking rather than about spiritual growth (knowledge, insight, wisdom and actual practice) far beyond the reach of the delusional, feel-good temptation situationally provided by alcohol. In the real A.A., "...

Re: When is a person recovered or cured?

...I was just pointing out we don't even have to believe in a 'Creator', never mind understand that recovery comes from one. Maybe both of us are trying to be too simplistic here. Belief in self and/or in any kind of human power must be abandoned at Step One, and then the early A.A.s share their co...

Re: When is a person recovered or cured?

It has only to do with understanding alcoholism as a two-fold condition with only the second part being treatable only by our Creator. ... Chapter 7 talks about 'when all else fails' and suggests intensive work with another alcoholic. Not as some kind of separate or different program or as some kin...

Re: Cured or in remission - Does AA have a 'used by date'

...merely a question...I'd like to know from older members where everyone goes... I suspect nobody really knows any kind of comprehensive answer here. But if you were to look closely at various situations, I would suspect the real A.A. group with identifiable members calling *themselves* an A.A. gr...

Re: To identify, or not identify, as an alcoholic

I could be wrong here, but it seems to me that the issue that the OP is addressing, is...that he is having trouble fully conceding to himself whether he is an alcoholic or not. Understood, and agreed...and that can be a tough place to be. But rather than being concerned about that, taking the Steps...

Re: When is a person recovered or cured?

Because today's AA almost never tells the real alcoholic the entire story of the original A.A. I think that's a gross oversimplification. Yes, that is certainly neither the entirety of the matter nor a comprehensive explanation of it! But the matter of recovered versus allegedly recovering-ing-ing-...

Re: To identify, or not identify, as an alcoholic

I understand that alcoholism is as much about how you are when you are sober as it is about how you are when you are drinking. It is only the obsession that precedes the drinking that be changed. That's part about being alcoholic I identify with. But, the physical side of this thing seems different...

Hi, It appears there are a multitude of 'ideas', opinions and 'claims' but is there any proven scientific answer for the question, Does a person recover in AA or are they always recovering. ... ...thousands of 1st months coins going out but only a few dozen 10 year coins. Re: BB

Today I ask new people if they can safely use alcohol every time they drink? If the answer is no then they may have a issue. Yes, this is the first stage of recovering, because without knowing how drinking affects us and without understanding what the alcohol does to us, we may never even be intere...

Re: Struggling

The fact is that I can't stay sober. That is Step One, that was my own deal and that is why today's AA and its "Don't drink" and/or one-day-at-a-time sobriety could never have worked for me. If you are willing and ready to stop trying to stop drinking and to accept the original A.A. approach to per...

Re: Fantasy world.
