Re: 3rd Tradition Long Form

In the meeting I recently attended, at least some of the people staying sober on mere human power -- "the strength of 'the fellowship'", as "Charlie & Joe" used to call that -- spoke of things shared with them at their beginnings, and it was obvious the things they are practicing today are not the ...

Re: Please help!! Daughter in law question

My son and daughter in law live in the same city as my husband and I (with their daughter who is 3)...my granddaughter has a developmental disability... My son...and his wife struggle financially and with their daughter... ...[daughter in law] just does not do things our families way. When I went t...

Re: why does this forum delete posts about scientific litera

If you want people like me to not take issue with the fact that aa, na etc, are the only groups considered valid by the courts system/judges... That matter and anyone's feelings or thoughts related to it would be outside issues and A.A. would have no opinion or support, argument or whatever else to...

Re: Still confused

It is my responsibility to stop drinking on my own, but the meetings help me with issues related to drinking, so I have others to share with. And, at some point I get a sponsor who also helps me with rough times? Is this right? Only in today's AA where many people are not alcoholics. But no, the or...

Re: why does this forum delete posts about scientific litera

pissing on science is a sure fire way to alienate anybody with a reasonable demeanor... If science has found a way to make an alcoholic into a normal drinker, let it be known to the world and let the DUI judges know of the alternative. Until then, however, I suspect we really have little more to co...

Re: why does this forum delete posts about scientific litera

Ive had friends kill themselves because they were trying to live an abstinence based lifestyle. The next time you meet or see someone who is giving abstinence his or her best shot and finding sobriety unbearable, please try to put him or in touch with someone who can share the real A.A. message tha...

Re: why does this forum delete posts about scientific litera

...the AB programme failed...was not very helpful...made little difference... We interpret these results as strongly suggesting that controlled-drinking programmes (which include the option of aiming for abstinence) should be offered to problem drinkers like our clients. Rational logic eludes me co...

Re: Pioneers of AA

It was amazing circumstances some 80 years ago. I think that is a deciding factor here in relation to the fact that the "Pioneers of A.A." wrote a book containing their actual "combined knowledge and experience" -- not a book of theology or philosophy -- to share permanent recovery from chronic alc...

Re: Pioneers of AA

I like to ask what today might be like for any or all of us if any or all of us had been there in place of Bill, Bob and others at the beginning...and that makes me shudder. I read somewhere a religious person, priest or whatever, saying he felt that Bill was divinely inspired in writing the steps,...

Re: Pioneers of AA

Bill W couldn't save the drunks by talking to them about just the solution. He had to first talk about the problem (why people went back to the drink-the queer mental twist/blind spot) and then he was able to win over Dr. Bobs confidence. Hence step 1 is the most important part of the whole program...

Nonsense. That is nothing more than a bird's-eye view intended for non-A.A.s.

Re: Pioneers of AA

The proof was around me forever, I just did not see it. I was looking for Lighting Bolts, instead it was shown in thing like the Brilliance of the Moon or Stars. There are various things to keep in mind here, and the first, at least for me, is this: Proof is personal and nobody else is required to ...

Re: Question about being in a group

Being a member of an A.A. group and being a member of any other kind of group might or might not include the same kinds of opportunities or bring the same results, but giving me a sense of useful and acceptance among non-competitive equals is my own experience... altruism (noun) : feelings and behav...

Re: Pioneers of AA

Of course A.A. has philosophy; Where? All I have ever read in our book is "combined knowledge and experience"...and including statements such as this: "If a mere code of morals or a better philosophy of life were sufficient to overcome alcoholism, many of us would have recovered long ago. But we fo...
