Re: Spiritual Awakening Depression!

Yes, alcohol causes depression. If you are already depressed, alcohol exacerbates the problem - makes it impossible to overcome.

Re: Hi all

Thank you, bowsie, for taking the time to reply to my post. Truly, I'm not trying to be difficult, but the answer to my question was still not clear. I certainly agree with all that you said, but I'm still needing clarification as to what exactly it means when you say "sit on" Step One. I'm afraid t...

Re: Hi all

Hi, thebowsie. Could you please elaborate on what you mean when you say "sit on Step One."? Of course, it would be pointless to move on to steps 2-12 without having "gotten" step 1. But once an individual has gotten step one, i.e., has no problem admitting that they are powerless over alcohol and th...

Hi, Db. Did you mean to say, "...and not drinking has NOT only kept me from drinking alcohol. It has enabled me to have a great life."?

Mich, I have a lot of respect for you for standing up for your rights and the rights of others. From everything I have read that you have shared, I truly think the answer is to start a new meeting. It sounds like a new meeting is sorely needed in your area so your new group can get down to the busin...

Re: Plugging HA home group at AA meetings?

I've always practiced then "when in Rome" method in my recovery. When I'm in an AA meeting, it's all about Alcoholics Anonymous, when I was in NA, it's all about Narcotics Anonymous. I have a AA Homegroup and had an AA sponsor who I went through the Twelve Steps. I had an NA Homegroup and NA Sponso...

Re: Plugging HA home group at AA meetings?

Would this be considered poor etiquette? I like to go to a lot of out of town meetings to change things up a bit, but I'm never sure if I should plug my home group, which happens to be an HA meeting, when introducing myself at out of town AA meetings or not because although we use the Big Book it's...

Re: Sponsor Venue

Many people here meet just prior to or immediately following a meeting at the meeting venue. Some people may be uncomfortable meeting in a public place like a restaurant. Or how about meeting in a park at a picnic table (unless of course you live in North Dakota where it's freezing right now).

Mich, I want to tell you that as a woman, I WOULD NOT allow a man to degrade me! I would absolutely put them in their place. At the same time, I would not allow the remarks of an ignorant old fart to affect my self-esteem. If that is the case, these women sorely need to work on their self-esteem iss...

One of the biggest culprits in my mind is the 'one day at a time,' it is useful for those who haven't done the steps at least to #5, and are forced to struggle staying sober, then completely ruined by those who say w...

If you're staying in this relationship solely to protect your wife's feelings, then you are probably doing a disservice to her. Communicate with her! You might start the ball rolling by simply asking your wife, "Are you happy?"

Just think, every minute of every day, in this vast world, someone, somewhere is probably picking up an anniversary medallion. A great excuse to eat cake every day!

Kudos to your husband, thebowsie!

Re: What will friends think

Your question was whether to tell your housemate about your drinking. I wouldn't worry about that right now. Put your energy towards taking care of yourself for now, worry about telling others later. Kudos on planning to go to a meeting tonight! Please come back and tell us how it went! I remember w...
