Re: Surviving the Holidays

I feel if the candidate has the deep desire to survive, he is going to survive the holidays. Alkathons or Sober parties at other friends house give them options to spend time not worried about being sucked into drinking. I would say now, after being sober for quite sometime and having worked with a ...

Re: Drinking Dreams

Several things get registered in the subconscious mind. You could have been in a meeting that had lot of war stories being shared. Or some planning going on in your friends circle. I would just be happy it was a dream and move on. Obsessing over it may lead to unwanted outcome since that would be co...

Re: One day at a time

The Big Book is meant to be "Suggestive Only" as is a Sponsor's directions, Suggestive Only, but to get what they have, which is why you asked them to be a Sponsor in the first place, one should follow their Directions of how they got there. There are 103 Musts in the Big Book, One does not have to...

Re: Character defect - Money management

Bring awareness into every activity of yours. It is difficult but with prayers and meditation anything is possible. From what i read, you are just right there to step into the reminder of the steps. This thought "thought of making amends" brings us to step 10. That means pretty much we are in the gr...

Re: One day at a time

Years of Sobriety, or Hours. My belief is that "I" don't own my Sobriety, it is "Gifted" to me. I definitely could not be Here Today, without outside Help. I dont want to affect/impact your belief. What I am concerned is you are very convincing that the big book requests us to pray for sobriety by ...

Re: The great obsession of every abnormal drinker

Curious indeed for an atheist, but I was willing to continue on with the process. I was curious about what the people who call themselves to be part of secular AA do. I was checking if they are staying sober without the 12 step? Apart from the same misunderstanding around the first step, they too d...

Re: One day at a time

My Sponsor had me reading 83-88 Daily when I was still at Stepp 2 or 3, I did not understand Why? But the Promises contained in the Reading helped me Work towards the 3rd, 4th, 5th and so on . i am glad yours didn't fall off. you jump into others without understanding the 1st, this is the confusion...

Re: One day at a time

You don't have to feel like you need to Co Sponsor, someone else is looking after that. I dont. You post few it bits like "Upon awakening" and "On Retiring" and sound really convincing. In the working of the 3rd step they lay out what is the main problem: "Selfishness and self-centeredness" and res...

Re: One day at a time

That is pretty much a Prayer, (of our own making). Then it continues with They suggest that while we are in the 3rd step as long as it makes sense to you. Here are you adding to the context and distorting the whole message. But I am glad you accepted its your own and not from the book. Hope you tel...

Re: One day at a time

Let me quote the whole paragraph. When we retire at night, we constructively review our day. Were we resentful, selfish, dishonest or afraid? Do we owe an apology? Have we kept something to ourselves which should be discussed with another person at once? Were we kind and loving toward all? What coul...

Re: One day at a time

On the other side. This sounds that after Years of Sobriety, "You have Conquered Alcohol" there fore Life is no longer a Problem. 2 Ways of looking at this. Of course you could look at things at a different angle. Before Bill and Bob they pitch in the 24 hour plan they make sure alcoholics can neve...

Re: One day at a time

Another related thingy to ODAAT is the celebration of AA birthdays; if an individual does ODAAT how can he/she have a sobriety birthday? I could throw Founders Day into the mix but I wont. None of it makes common sense and the program of recovery is very sensible. Google "24 hour plan AA" you shoul...

Re: One day at a time

Selfishness and Self Centeredness is the Root of Our problem, driven by hundreds of forms of Fear.
Yes, thats the recipe for us "upon awakening and before retiring". Sobriety is a side product of what we do.

Re: One day at a time

Hey Doh, Below is your response from "addicts in AA topic". And as the Big Book describes "Alcohol was but a Symptom, we have to get down to the causes" (The ism's) So if alcohol is but a symptom and we have to get down to the causes, what do you think the AA program would suggest? Help us overcome ...
