Re: How many of us are out there?

I will be sober today. I feel confident I will be sober tomorrow, but hope at long term recovery often seems impossible and makes me incredibly sad sometimes. If we are alcoholic, our mind will con us into drinking again, if we dont realize that we are alcoholic and dont take necessary steps. Thats...

Re: Making amends

We are trying to build a new attitude and part of the process is the amend process. I see you are coming to a conclusion you dont owe amends in most cases. My question will be on the 2nd category of people. Are you in good relationship now? Are there is still friction and do you have to deal with th...

Re: Not at rock bottom ..but asking questions

Id be grateful to hear what you think of whether what i say about guilt/ shame/ secrecy makes any bit of sense at all to anyone. Id also love to know in what ways life is better without alcohol ...i haven't even considered this as a possibility. Guilt is something we all have because we think we ha...

Re: Unmanageability of step 1

Internal unmanageability is very important because its very subtle. Most just focus on powerlessness after we take that first drink. If just the first drink is problem, we have a very simple solution, just say no like the formal first lady said. What happens after we put down the drink is very criti...

Re: Big Book hard to follow

It's a fear thing aswell as In what people think of me when I share something.
I like what AggieJim wrote, go back and read that. Thats exactly what it is. Even if they do, its their character defect. Not yours. They should be ashamed of it.

Re: Big Book hard to follow

Need to understand different people communicate better in different mode. Conveying something among an audience requires skills. Even today its hard for me convey something in meetings. Listening is better. If I have to talk to someone, I can always go up to them after the meeting and chat with them.

Re: Mental Obsession

For me I have conceded which I didn't enjoy & still don't but I'm the real deal whether I like it or not! My life is pretty unmanageable at the moment. To go back out would be insanity. I'm done with with it all..just want to recover. But the obsession can be strong at times it scares me. Any thoug...

Re: Any Excuse

Welcome to the world of alcoholism. You already have made a great start. There is something that takes over and leads us to drink. We in AA call it the obsession of the mind. The loneliness and other things are the internal unmanageability that renders us powerless. In a few steps you can become obs...

Re: Unmanageability of step 1

If we just take about damages after we take that first drink which is the craving piece and external damages like car crashes, DUIs, job loss, divorce thats more dangerous but thats what you will see in the F2F meetings, in contrast to what the big book wants us to focus on . If you flip to page 92 ...

Re: Unmanageability of step 1

If you add another condition to step 1 so people are looking for the unmanageability in their life then there's a danger that a person wouldn't get Step 1 as they are looking for a qualifying additional criteria to meet. Yes that is the danger, but the spiritual malady alone is not the issue. Pecul...

Re: How do I help my atheist sponsee?

As an atheist I find this chapter to be useless. It's not written by an atheist, agnostic or anyone that understands either. Bill shows in his story how he struggles with the god concept when his friend visits him and talks about what he did to sober up. And you say this is not written by an agnost...

Re: Unmanageability of step 1

I have seen another opinion on this forum that says the unmanageable part refers to our internal condition aka the Spiritual Malady. Thanks for bringing this up. Yes there is the internal unmanageability which is the restlessness, irritability and discontented nature (emotional stuff). Then you hav...

Re: Such Unfortunates

And in the middle of the inventory process, Bill throws this idea that we can all try.
We never apologize for God. Instead we let Him demonstrate, through us, what He can do. We ask Him to remove our fear and direct our attention to what He would have us be. At once, we commence to outgrow fear.

Re: Alcohol love/hate relationship

However, I began drinking again after that period, as I had thirsted for it for a while. Welcome to the forum. Grab the book of Alcoholics Anonymous and read the chapter more about alcoholism. There are 4 short stories to illustrate the mental state of the alcoholic. They show how the alcoholic min...

Re: Such Unfortunates

When I was drinking I didn't dream. I have been sober for 130 days now, 129 nightmares. Of course our emotions were in check when we were drinking. Unfortunately at one point, the craving crept it and we had series of incidences that probably made us attempt moderation. But when we crossed the line...
