Re: Stir crazy on hols

I am so glad that I came into the fellowship in this world of internet. Access to various speakers and workshops where very vital early in my recovery and even today. Youtube or a simple search would lead you to fellow alcoholics who share their experience and knowledge on the big book. I am so grat...

Re: Addicted to addiction

You are in the right place. Many dont even recognize that they an issue. Understanding how the alcoholic/addictive mind works, you can take a deep dive into the rest of the 12 steps. So grab hold of the basic text Alcoholics Anonymous and start reading the chapters "more about alcoholism" There is a...

Re: Is my sponsor being inflexible?

I dont like the 90/90 style of sponsoring. The sponsor ideally should help someone to reach a point where they can rely on the program rather than the meetings. That for an alcoholic is very important. The racing mind needs to be quietened otherwise, people who are gravely impacted cant wait for the...

Re: Struggling with step 9

I think you did the right thing bravo on the courage to initiate the process. Somewhat like the serenity prayer, the chapter "Enlightened relationship" of Power of Now, this particular segment is so powerful, but difficult to implement, but for an alcoholic its a must. The greatest catalyst for chan...

Re: Struggling with step 9

What can I say to make him understand I was not being myself, and see that I am worth the time ? Nineth step says "Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others." The second part is crucial. Without knowing much background Its hard to suggest ...

Re: Helped sponsee decide that she’s NOT alcoholic

Yeah thats something incredible that happens when the alcoholic realizes the truth on his/her own understanding. The mental state they talk about that precedes the first drink is so important to latch on because its so subtle many dont realize that. We talk about losing control after we take the fir...

Re: New Slogans

Some dont think at all when they pick up and for some thoughts get obsessive. The statement "When we overcome the spiritual malady we straighten out mentally and physically". Then if one still has the alcoholic mind, would ask, does that mean we can safely drink? Nope, it means the sanity would have...

Re: Dealing With Loneliness

I would say that half the time I came out of those meetings I was more angry and frustrated than when I went in.
So, do you have a sponsor? Have you run these by someone on why you feel this way? Also, I see no mention of working the 12 steps. Have you gone through the steps?

Re: is it enabling to pay sober living house rent for a relative

If we do pay more rent, is there any way to ask for some kind of accountability that also respects boundaries? Dont know. If the candidate is thoroughly beaten to a point of surrender, it might work. You could suggest separation. If they are not considering it and get defensive, it would suggest th...

Re: Any advice on getting a sponsor

I agree to what has already been said. There is a talk that one could help another if they are just a day sober than the other. Thats totally bull crap. The person who is sponsoring you has a responsibility of guiding you through the process so you have a thorough understanding of the whole 12 steps...

Re: DO NOT READ THIS POST IF YOU DON'T LIKE READING ABOUT CRITICISM OF AA!

I remember a guy named Scott who had visited us, his first AA meeting at the correction facility, he had floundered from one correction facility to another past 14 years, interestingly he never saw signs for a AA meetings in those facilities. I am not sure its true but its possible. But then we hand...

Re: DO NOT READ THIS POST IF YOU DON'T LIKE READING ABOUT CRITICISM OF AA!

Its a complex disease. Even some of those in recovery are in AA dont have complete understanding of the concepts, let alone those from outside. My observation is there are lot of hard drinkers who were just asked to go to AA wake up one day that they have wasted many years in AA while they could hav...

Re: Steps 1, 2 & 3

So my question is, has anyone else found a way to get steps 1/2/3 done without having to read Docs Opinion, Bills Story, there is a solution, more about..., and we agnostics? I do make it clear to the person I’m working with that we WILL be going back to read these chapters though. I personally bel...

Re: Helped sponsee decide that she’s NOT alcoholic

So what other questions/point do you suggest I bring up specifically? I’m at a stand still here. Not sure if I should try one more time or just leave it alone. I will also bring up the "Restlessness, irritability, and discontentment" and other emotions we deal with when not drinking. I usually use ...
