Re: Major game changer after years in recovery...

"The only requirement for A.A. membership is a desire to stop drinking." Early intolerance based on fear. To take away any alcoholic's chance at A.A. was sometimes to pronounce his death sentence. Membership regulations abandoned. Two examples of experience. Any alcoholic is a member of A.A. when he...

Re: Lost Newcomer

Welcome to the forum glad that you are here. There is one suggestion that I would make. And that is to learn patience. We did not get ourselves here overnight it took years of drinking to get to this place in our lives. So recovery in itself is not going to be a overnight fix. When I first started g...

Re: I never thought it was a problem...

Welcome Linnyloo to the forum. I started out about the same way you shared. Being somewhat a shy person I felt that I needed a drink to help me open up and be around people. Plus I enjoyed the taste of the alcohol. As time proceeded to move forward so did my drinking, where I ended up drinking 24/7....

Re: my sponsor says I relapsed on cough syrup, is he right?

Personally speaking for me it is the person intention that should matter. To be it sounded like you had a cough and wanted to get over it. And probably like me have a hard time reading what the medication has in them. The reality is that you had a cough and wanted to stop, period. That was your inte...

Welcome Linc to e-aa forum. Glad that you have joined us. Take a tour and read the stories and shares here. It will help determine if you are one or not.

The key test is stop drinking. If you cannot then maybe you should take a serious look at the situation.

Have a good day.

Re: How to get a married couple to go to AA?

Unfortunate that the saying you can take a horse to water but you cannot make it drink. The horse must want it to drink it. The only thing that you can do for the children is give them support. Let them know that they can come to you when things at home get really bad. As for buying them things they...

Re: Something to Share

"I can have a Higher Power and not worry about why children die of cancer. I don't know and I don't care "why" that happens!" On Jan. 9, 2000, my son died from cancer. At that time I had two and half years of sobriety. If there could have been any chance to take that first drink that would have been...

Re: Character Defects

"I didnt know that a sponsor has the power to remove character defects. Or any human being for that matter. " What a sponsor can do is listen. They can share any experience the person has had if it corresponds to what the person is telling him. And what measures they took in trying to over come our ...

Re: Character Defects

Our character defects usually come in doing our 4th step. Where we list the wrongs that we have done to others. And is done with our sponsor. All that we can do is listen and share any E,S,& H if the person has done similar things that we have. But we cannot correct their character defects. They nee...

Re: Wheres my rock bottom?

Everybody's bottom is different. Some of us got lucky and found out that we were headed in a destructive path. For me I was lucky I woke up in time. Like you in ways early on I would drink for a period of time then was able to stop. But as time proceeded those stopping points became few and in betwe...

Re: Why should we trust God?

For me it was looking in the mirror. An honest look. I saw that it wasn't God that poured down that drink, it was me. It wasn't God telling me doesn't it taste good so drink more. It wasn't God that told me you are having a bad day, wouldn't a drink help. Etc. It was me that did that. I didn't help ...

Re: Early Sobriety - supporting friends

In this person you see the person you do not want to be. And doing twelve step work is the reason we can stay sober and progress in our recovery. For when we see a drunk, we see ourselves, and that is something we do not want to have any more in our lives. So it is a reminder of what we do not want ...
