Re: Do all alcoholics have to experience withdrawal symptons?

Hi Kay, welcome! If you want to stop drinking, then you are in the right place. If alcohol is causing problems in your life, then you are in the right place. There are stages to alcoholism. Not all alcoholics experience acute alcohol withdrawal symptoms. Acute alcohol withdrawal syndrome can occur i...

Re: Help Me Respond to Someone Who Wants To Amend

Go into process with an open mind. Respond from your heart. Speak your truth, but try to avoid extremes of sugarcoating or scorched earth. If you are not interested in mending damage done to your relationship with her, then say so. If you need more time before moving forward at mending your relation...

Re: Retread No One Wants to Touch

I am not going to allow personalities to keep me away from AA The personality that causes me the most difficulty is my own. My head can tell me lots of things that have a slightly off skew slant to them due to the way my personality processes input. What I perceive as reality is merely my head's ve...

Re: New bad habits

Sorry, I don't want to cause any resentments :) Just asking a simple question. No resentments here, quite the opposite. That is the tricky part about sharing electronically, no body language or voice inflections to pick up on. I will possibly reply with more later but I have to run for now because ...

Re: First post

proud of her for testing me and proud I didn't drink This speaks volumes for both you and you wife. Kudos to you both! And you are right that it takes a while. I didn't become a full blown alcoholic overnight and my recovery didn't happen overnight... go figure! . The good news is that I have the r...

Re: New bad habits

Doesn't this also validate that nicotine is indeed a mind altering drug? If it does...what then? Doesn't really impact my recovery in a positive manner either way, so pondering it is not a good use of my time. Not only that but the word "drug" is a semantical rabbit hole that I choose not to go dow...

Re: New bad habits

Has anyone else experienced re emerging bad habits following stopping drinking? Prior to working the 12 steps, oh yeah! I was still hard wired for bad habits. Working the 12 steps changed my thinking processes. With the change in thinking, I was able to start dropping bad habits by the wayside and ...

Re: Anonymity

There is this from page 264 of DR. BOB and the Good Oldtimers Warren recalled, “He [Dr. Bob] said there were two ways to break the anonymity Tradition: (1) by giving your name at the public level of press or radio; (2) by being so anonymous that you can’t be reached by other drunks.”

Re: Sponsorship in relation to a BB Workshop

My view on sponsors runs along the same line of thinking as you, but that is neither here nor there as far as how other people view sponsors and how things should be. The workshop idea will encounter resistance and it will encounter support.Opinions will be plentiful. In my experience with workshops...

Re: New bad habits

Bad habits are the result of thought processes. For me, just stopping my drinking, didn't really change my thought processes all that much. Actions had been changed, but not much else. Working the 12 steps had a much more profound impact on my thought processes. They gave me a far greater understand...

I do it by keeping my focus on the principles which keeps me from being distracted by personalities and my reactions to them.

Re: 1 year, 9 months sober - Really need help with depression/being an adult

AA has changed my life and allowed me a life I could have never pictured being available to me before. Sounds like a working higher power to me. I turned my will and life over to the principles of AA and rely on the truth that it is working in my life which gives me faith that as long as I continue...

Re: Fear

I have found the best way to get to the other side of my fears is to confront them and to walk through them. For years I tried to go around them, over them, run away from them, ignore them, etc. Just like with a door, none of those methods got me to the other side and I wound up stuck in the same ro...

Re: Sponsor homework I don't think I can do

Willingness to do the work might be the KEY. It was a big key for me. Doing only those things that I wanted to do, qualified me for my seat in the rooms, but it didn't get me a seat. When I became willing to do things that I didn't want to do and actually got into action, a shift occurred. Coming i...

Re: Almost 2 weeks sober but craving wine

Your post made me reflect on the difference between my wife and I. I am an alcoholic and she is not. If she feels like having a glass of wine, she will have one, which she may or may not finish. Not a lot of thought goes into her decision. And there will not be a second glass. No big deal to her. Ju...
