Re: One day at a time

To be honest, if I were a newcomer, I would find some of the attitudes displayed on this thread to be off-putting.

Re: One day at a time

excerpt from http://csobrisbane.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/this_is_AA.pdf We simply try to get through one day at a time without a drink. So in a round about way, yes it can be found in conference approved literature. I am neither pro nor con on the slogan "One Day at a Time" (or any slogans for...

These are the key words in your post. You are on the correct path and on your way out of the situation of drinking on Friday night. Keep moving forward.

Re: How do I tell my sponsor and group I went out drinking again?

I would do it with my heart, honesty, and as few of words as possible. When I admit to something that I would rather not admit to, if I find myself starting to use too many words, it seems opens the door to justifications which weakens both my admission of poor behavior and my resolve to not repeat ...

Re: Addicts in AA meetings?

Tonight one of them brought their kid into the meeting and no one said a word. Our traditions state clearly the closed meetings are for alcoholics or people who have a desire not to drink. Did anyone ask the kid if he had a desire not to drink? Perhaps drinking is a problem for him as well because ...

Re: Reading in a meeting

Someone said I should never pass a reading. Is that true? People say lots of things in meetings. Some might even be true! I would simply thank the person for their input and tell them that i would take it into consideration. After considering the comment, I would proceed as best I saw fit. If anyon...

Re: How quickly to take the steps & can I work on the steps without my sponsor's assistance?

I am extremely happy with my sponsor he has been fantastic. However, as I said I would have liked to get through the steps quicker but he has been extremely busy which he did warn me about. Is there anything I can do to work on the steps that I do not require my sponsors assistance? I guess I need ...

I enjoyed reading your post.
Thanks. i can take no credit though as i was merely passing along what I have heard in the rooms of AA. Nothing original. Nothing from my brain. :~)

Re: Questions heard at meetings.

Being overly sensitive to the words of others blocks me from the sunlight light of the spirit. I strive to maximize my time in the sunlight as part of improving my conscious contact with my higher power. When the words of others bother me, I need to focus why they bother me. While reflecting on that...

Re: Questions heard at meetings.

To me it would depend upon the dictionary in the mind of the person doing the inventory. Defects of character is a rather ubiquitous phrase implying moral and psychological flaws and failings. The problem is that it is often to refer to natural human emotions and experiences that are unavoidable. I ...

Re: Questions heard at meetings.

You don't drown by falling into a river. You drown by staying there. When I go on an exploratory visit to a new business, I will get wet as part of the process but it should be brief interlude until I am back on the river bank drying in the sum. If I find that throughout my day I am continually gett...

Re: clearly intoxicated at a meeting, then drove her car

I would approach the woman after the meeting and tell her that as a concerned citizen, not as a member of AA, I believe that you are too intoxicated to get behind the wheel and drive. Doing so would put other people's lives in jeopardy. So if you do, you will leave me with no other option but to cal...

Re: The Hardline Approach

When I share, if I stick strictly to my ESH, a label such as hardline (or whatever) can't really be applied. When I stray from my ESH into talking about what other people do, should do, don't do, or shouldn't do, etc., then a label can be easily applied.
