Re: Sometimes Quickly, Sometimes Slowly

You are quite right Layne.
God knows it doesn't happen very often, and I certainly don't make a habit of it; but even a blind pig finds an acorn every now and then. :~)

Re: Sometimes Quickly, Sometimes Slowly

I hope that all of the consequences of my actions fall only on me. Oh no you don't, you don't get to short change me on consequences, they are too valuable and full of insights as long as my mind is open. :~) There have been a few different people interacting on this thread. There have been a few d...

Re: Sometimes Quickly, Sometimes Slowly

Everyone has bad days. There are a multitude of beliefs on cause and effect. One person's flippant is another person's aha. The best I can do is to try and follow the suggestions of the peace prayer of St Francis.

Re: Sometimes Quickly, Sometimes Slowly

I find that saying to be flippant disregarding a persons pain as something insincere. The person that originally said the comment said it to me and only me and he knew me and he knew exactly what I needed to hear at that specific time. He didn't say it or mean it to be a one size fits all answer to...

Re: Sometimes Quickly, Sometimes Slowly

My alcoholism was a continual process of hurt, pain, and bleeding and it wasn't going to stop. If initially recovery involved hurt, pain, and bleeding at least it came with the hope of stopping the hurt, pain, and bleeding.

Re: Sometimes Quickly, Sometimes Slowly

I think its from Working with Others where the sponsor shares from their inventory to show you that you are not all that different. My previous sponsor did that. He said that it was so difficult to tell another person. The guy I did mine with saw that I was having difficulty. He looked at me and wi...

Re: Drinking Dreams

I used to have lots of drinking dreams. They seemed so real. So intense. I would wake up drenched in sweat. Wracked with of guilt. It would take a few minutes to realize that it was just a dream. One thing I have learned... is not to analyze the dreams with the mind that created them!!! Talk about i...

Re: Making amends

Without confidence in the process the steps only serve to frustrate me. Confidence is the result of thoughtful analysis. It is limiting though because it is based on existing knowledge. Faith is a belief beyond the limits of existing knowledge. A willingness to explore. To go beyond the narrow conf...

Re: Sometimes Quickly, Sometimes Slowly

I tried going along by quoting the BB, repeating slogans, and sharing what I am expected to say to fit in. It was just another façade. Good deal on recognizing the facade for what it was. My whole life was spent masquerading behind facades before recovery set me free to be me. This morning at a mee...

Re: Making amends

You might a gregarious type that becomes comfortable with people/make friend easily. I well imagine tomsteve never met a stranger, just people he hadn't previously spoken with. I have always admired that quality in people that have it. Even so, I have done nothing on my end to work on it though. Ev...

Help

I believe my existence on this planet is to learn about help. Help is a simple word. Just four letters. But so powerful in concept and practice. When I ask for help, it exponentially increase the possibility that the people that help me will receive help through the act of helping me. When I give he...

Re: Making amends

Step 5 wasn't a guilt trip for me, but instead it was very liberating. Telling another human being made it all very real for me. It stripped away any denial that I might still have been harboring and made acceptance of self with all my faults easier, which led to complete honesty and the beginning o...

Re: Cheating Husband Sober 60 Days Lying About Affairs

Why do I continue to stay? What is wrong with me that I believed all his lies so long and hung on despite all the circumstantial evidence? And why now? Replace "his" with "alcohol" and it could have been me posting about my relationship with booze. The reasons were because of fear, denial. low self...

Re: Making amends

Right now I can't make amends to pretty much everybody or anything because I don't feel like I should. There is nothing wrong with this. It makes sense and seems pretty natural because you are on the inventory step, not the amends steps of 8-9. In step 5 you will use this inventory from step 4 to f...
