Hi Rod, it took me a few years and attempts to get a handle on the AA program. I couldn't see the forest for the trees. AA seems to demand a lot of my time What would you consider a lot of your time? I have a hard time being told what to do What are you being told to do? Am I one of the hopeless few...

Welcome Robert! Congrats on 23 days, that is great. Don't worry about your mind racing all over during prayer. It is like anything else, with practise it improves. Contact is the important factor here, not content. The only problem that I know of in prayer, is if you don't.

Sorry to rant
Talking is not ranting, talking is good for the soul, yours and mine at the same time.

No you do not have to rely on God to stay sober. When I first got to AA, I was put off by all the God talk, but I was at my wits end with no other options for staying sober. I had tried everything else and nothing worked, so basically I was scared enough that I could get past all the God talk to get...

My idea would be a simple hug. Your brother is relatively new in sobriety and you mentioned that he doesn't like to talk. I was much the same way when I was starting out. My wife wanted to be supportive, but learned that it was better not to mention AA to me, it is hard to explain, but I guess it wa...

That is great Joe! And you are right, everyone in those rooms has been there. Like you will hear people say, keep coming back. I found out that it ain't near as scary in the rooms as it is "out there". Remember that you never have to be alone, there are people on your side.

Hi Joe, glad you are here. You definitely are not alone. I can relate to much of your post. I too never had any dui, jail, money trouble, job loss, etc, but I was out of control. I didn't want to drink but I couldn't not drink, it was truly insane. That is why I am here, because I am not all there. ...

I think that my friends and family NEED my direction/guidance. They don't though...they need God's!! I am not God.
Excellant advice, that pretty much sums it up!

It is pretty hard for an outsider to get a grasp on the actual situation, but it seems to me that you have painted a picture of fairly toxic situation. On what level is working for you? You mentioned that it is screwing with your head. I can only speak for myself, but in order for me to be of any se...

At about five years of sobriety, I rewarded myself with a year and a half of Friday type hell. Amazingly (read with sarcasm) it wound up with the fetal position once again. Thank (word of your choice) I no longer reward myself that way! I think it worse than my original horrendous bottom, because it...

How about another sober day as a reward? What better could I ask for?
