Re: Haven't been going to meetings, but staying sober

My Future wife (current wife now) came with me to my first meeting. Helped me through the doors. It was a closed meeting, but we didn't know at the time, or anything about open/closed meetings at that time. Or about meeting in general. We were both welcomed. I am not sure what anyone said that night...

Re: Friday 13th ....despite yoga, still alcoholic

Good Morning Mary, good share and thank you. I have struggled with the right or wrong doings, others and my own. Then I read a phrase that I had written in my BB 20 some years ago. The more I worry about me loving you, than you loving me. The better I will be. Sometimes a simple Sorry (albeit a big ...

Re: History of the so-called "Dr. Bob's Third Step Prayer"

I have always related "The 3rd Step Prayer" as it is written on page 63. I have never heard Dr Bob's version.

Re: Meeting routine has changed

"If you have decided you want what we have and are willing to go to any length to get it" "Then we are ready to take certain steps" I mean stale air, uncomfortable seats? If someone that I sponsored told me that, I would reply as if they might be setting up for a drunk. But having received what is o...

Congrats on your first month Nichole. You have already done the hardest step, walking across the threshold, and asking for help.

Re: personalities in the rooms

It also says in the BB, when people offend us, we should think of them as sick people, and cheerfully offer them the same patients tolerance and pity we would to a sick friend

Re: Fourth Column Part 2

I was starting in a Commitment Group What is this? A group of people that Commit to going through the steps together. As fast as the slowest person, as they are written in the Big Book. A small tight knit group that basically Co Sponsor each other through the steps. They are Intense! Everyone must ...

Re: "Virtual" sponsor vs f2f

Wow this has gotten confusing. I better ask, "Anyone want to be my Virtual sponsor?" Honestly here is a storey, from before there was a choice. 5 Months sober, hanging out on a Saturday with my Sponsor. We had been through the steps together to the 5th and I was going through them again in a Commitm...

Re: Divorced from religion? I'm not so sure.

I'm not sure it was that cut-n-dried 1935-39, or how many actually saw it that way. Ohio AAs read the Bible, then The Upper Room , and prayed in ways many evangelicals today would find verrrrrrry familiar. After the first Catholics started joining, I do suppose AA became more nondenominational Xtia...

Re: TIMING of Resentment Inventory

But they did have the 7 Steps, and before that the 6 steps (1937) And before that the 4 Absolutes/5 C's of the Oxford Group. I'd like to write about this at length, on another thread. I have a few definite opinions and some unformed theories on the evolution of the "12 Steps" which might be interes...

Re: Hurt by my partner's inability to not drink after my rel

So can you straighten something up for me please. So I get it straight. You came to believe that you were powerless over Alcohol and your life was unmanageable. Who did you believe could restore your life to manageable, Yourself or your Partner? Our was your life Unmanageable because of your partner...

Re: Fourth Column, Discussion Part 2

"To show other alcoholics PRECISELY HOW WE HAVE RECOVERED is the main purpose of this book" is somewhat misleading. None of the "100" (early members) had worked "the 12 Steps" as Bill defined them... in November 1938 . No disagreement or debate here, just interested in hearing whatever you might ha...

Re: Concerning "gurus" and "guides"

IMO the biggest obstacle in the way of doing an Open and Honest 4th Step, is knowing that the 5th Step is next. Other than that it is just writing down Resentments, Fears, and Sexual Relations. Things that are rolling around in our heads anyways. The next obstacle is we ourselves trying to determine...

Yes I hate that expression. There is no I's or My's or Myself, mentioned in any of the step. It is all Plurals.
