Re: Can you be your own higher power?

I've been to a couple AA meetings where one or two participants have said they've found their Higher Power within themselves. How can this be true? From my understanding, the first step (being the most important step) is complete surrender...owning the fact that you are powerless. If I am powerless...

Re: When will I feel normal?

Drinking is but a Symptom. You state that you have quit drinking and using, but what have you done to replace them? I call it the "Ism" the Why I drank. I have also stated that if there were to be some Miracle Cure and that I would never touch another drop of Booze, I would be Locked in a padded cel...

As an Alcoholic (Mind that is) The easiest that I have ever heard it explained The 2 basic differences between an Alcoholic and a Heavy Drinker are 1, If when you Drink, the Drink controls you, you cannot control the Drink. Just 1 means you may wind up in Mexico. 2, If, when yo...

VIGILANCE We have seen the truth demonstrated again and again: "Once an alcoholic, always an alcoholic." Commencing to drink after a period of sobriety, we are in a short time as bad as ever. If we are planning to stop drinking, there must be no reservation of any kind, nor any lurking notion that ...

A "LIMITLESS LODE" Like a gaunt prospector, belt drawn in over the last ounce of food, our pick struck gold. Joy at our release from a lifetime of frustration knew no bounds. Father feels he has struck something better than gold. For a time he may try to hug the new treasure to himself. He may not s...

Re: New to the forum

Hi Ande rew. It took me 2 DUI's to find the Program, well to figure out that I can't Drink, nor could I live without a Drink. That was 4 days of Hell, then I found AA. I later found out that my second DUI could be Suspended, if I seek Curative Treatment. Well I was already in AA. so there I was. Any...

Yes, there is a long period of reconstruction ahead. . . . I ended my Day by Reading 83-86, starting with this line for years when I first Sobered up. Life was Much More on Plain, and it is Today when I do the same. However, I only find myself doing that at the Cabin, when life kind of Slows Down. ...

RECONSTRUCTION Yes, there is a long period of reconstruction ahead. . . . — ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS, p. 83 The reconstruction of my life is the prime goal in my recovery as I avoid taking that first drink, one day at a time. BUILDING A NEW LIFE We feel a man is unthinking when he says sobriety is enough. — ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS, p. 82 When I reflect on Step Nine, I see that physical sobriety must be enough for me. I need to remember the hopelessness I felt before I found sobriety, and how I was willing to go to any lengt...

I would usually say 90 in 90 Days, but Covid has that messed up.

Read the BB, Call your Sponsor, Have a pocket full of Sweets, Slow Down and look around you "Life is awesome Sober!" Keep up the Good Work, 42 Days is Great!

good topic. Which came first? The chicken or the egg?
Yes, they both taste Great Fried.

By the time the Spiritual Malady is addressed in the Steps, The Body DT's not the Cereous) and most of the Mind (at least the Fog) should be well on the Mend.

Re: The purpose of the Big Book. What is the problem? What is the solution?

Someone has also suggested to me that the problem is alcohol & if we never drank in the first place we wouldn't suffer from alcoholism. Too much here to address right now. To the idea that alcohol is the problem I disagree. If it were not alcohol it would likely be another drug, pornography, shoppi...
