Re: Dad and brother "relapsed" over Christmas

I guess you hope to fix this and you can't as they made decisions to relapse and all you can do is take care of yourself and try and not let them live in your head rent free. <-----Hard to do and with practice you can achieve sanity.

Re: Alcohol and trying to conceive - hubby driving me crazy!

So to cut a long story short i have been sober for 9 weeks now and would like to start trying for family. My hubby wants to wait until i am sober for 6 months before trying as i have in the past not been good at keeping promises regarding my drinking. I just think he is being unreasonable as i feel...

Holidays and those bottles

I remember in early sobriety being told about the fascination of the bottles in the liquor store. I kind of dismissed that because I was more of a beer guy and less of those fancy kinds of alcohol. Now 29 years later I was in the store yesterday getting a sub and some other stuff from the Italian st...

Well done and many more!

What have you learned over the past 12 years and what could you say to the newcomer sitting on the fence about sobriety and how life will be better?

Re: There is Hope

Yes agreed! Now if we can let go of all of the unique aspects and just go with the flow and learn to live in the initial uncomfortable ways of sobriety; we eventually learn that we are all the same just not drinking and being outta control. Miracles is all I know and I really don't want to deep dive...

Re: Is Introversion a Character defect?

Thanks, that makes me feel better. I was starting to think I am going to have to train myself to enjoy tons of social interaction to stay sober. I always share (even though I hate getting called on lol), never turn down an opportunity to chair meetings, and also volunteer a lot for jobs that are ne...

Re: Depression and AA

**** it is weird to me that everything has a label on it ^^^^^ Not dismissing the intent as back in the day and I mean long time ago we had t endure whatever it was in sobriety with the tolls we had. Depression for me has been a real kick in the tookus and something I've had to endure as time like a...

Re: Is Introversion a Character defect?

Comfort level is what I see you as and I can relate! I never cared for formal events and if I was late I'd just not go because of the fear of attention and or having to explain myself. I see nothing wrong with me time as long as Me and My Mind don't start thinking about things that can get me in tro...

Re: Have I been a dry drunk all this time?

You are in the right place an all of this stuff in AA takes times to become a good habit. The key is a desire to stop drinking and then putting the steps into action. The hardest part of this life long this journey is the stinking thinking of the "what if's"! Whether it is People, Places and Things ...

Re: Depression and AA

I always ask this question when I hear anxiety of stuff in the recovery area. So when you started drinking were you anxious back then until you got a few drink in you? Did you have depression while drinking? Honesty comes from within and so you know the answers. Possibly running to get some kind of ...

Re: Three years continuous sobriety

Well done and keep it up. You will be challenged over time as you grow and if you keep your last drunk fresh and have a good foundation you will overcome the growing pains. it only gets better as more is revealed.

Re: No More Drama!

I wanted to pose this in the drama department and throw out what I've seen recently: This stuff has been going on for generations and it gets more amp'ed up each year and with each generation and so my point is this? How are sober drunks supposed to act in public? Different that when drunk could be ...

Re: Spiritual Practices

That is a good post on life on life's terms. I know for me I sit on my laurels and point and forget I have 3 fingers pointing at me! Blame game! Ha! Doesn't work anymore even when I think I can use old tricks to fix my mess. What I can say with clarity is life doesn't just suddenly get smooth after ...

Re: How to do aa without god?

I am not a militant atheist, just an atheist and when I speak at meeting level I only speak of my own experience and never cross talk. I believe everyone has a right to believe or not to believe If you have the desire to stop drinking then when did you come to that point in your life? I have known ...
