Re: Counting the days/months/years

These are yours and the first anniversary was mine is what I was taught long ago. Sometime folks think you need to have some grand wisdom of life and really I can't say it was wisdom although I'd rather it be in my actions. That part might not be so flattering sometimes. Really in some ways it is li...

Re: AA Cliches,Slogans,Platitudes

I Got sober in California and they had a few rules that were also used as slogans of sorts in different topics for the green horn new comer 1. 90 in 90 2. keep the plug in the jug 3. keep your clothes on; meaning no sex with others for one year unless you were married or had a standing relationship-...

Re: Counting the days/months/years

01 Nov 1989 I woke up and I was really jammed up! Eyes hurt, head wasn't doing too well and my stomach was quite queasy. I stumbled down the hall to the head as in those days the barracks had the community head. I went back and slept until Sunday evening and I chugged a few bottles of Gatorade in or...

Re: AA Cliches,Slogans,Platitudes

I was thinking about a few of these cliches like: Play a country song backwards and you'll get the girl, dog and the house back and ya know back in the day (classic country) was all about some serious heart aches. I honestly can't relate to this new rock nroll rap country stuff outside of red solo c...

Re: Not sure

Most difficult suggestion I ever had to accept and swallow was forgiving myself for my actions via working the steps. I felt as if I had something to prove being stiff lipped and it wasn't about me and yet I couldn't get out of my own way. sheesh! My grandmother inspired me as she was able to achiev...

Re: Going Abroad

Thank you all for your advice so far :D I'm so glad that I joined this forum before setting off - Im hoping there will be Wi-Fi at the hotel and this feels like another outlet to access like minded people; i find it so easy to let myself feel lonely which is ridiculously dangerous and total rubbish...

Re: Not sure

Hi and welcome. I'm Ann, alcoholic and I'm glad you posted here. Something about your story made me think about how we alcoholics often try to fix others . This is why a group is useful -- if we take these opportunities to someone else and they agree to help, then we know it's not our ego managing ...

Re: Not sure

Welcome positrac. Glad you found us! I am sure that you will find many people here who do not go to the Face to Face meetings and thrive here in online AA. Look around, say hello, check out our online and email AA venues too. I am reminded of how lucky I am to have a great AA community which I atte...

Not sure

In this life we have a lot of opinions about just about anything that comes up. I have some views on AA and the purpose as I have some back ground on this view. My grandmother came into AA in 11/1955 and back then women weren’t a common sight and hence the 13th step kind of came alive. But my point ...

Re: Going Abroad

I lived overseas for over 7 years and all of the countries I visited (pre-interweb) I found meetings. I have no advice and or suggestions on living abroard as it is different for each of us. Common goals are those in the BB and if you have a good sponsor with some experience. I hope you'll take the ...
