Re: The Purpose of Step 1
This is a good discussion. Not sure if there is a right or wrong answer. i believe this also. i dont think there was any way i could say i was insane before accepting alcohol kiked my arse. i couldnt see the insanity with a clouded mind. step 2 mentions a power greater than me that could restore me...

or maybe confusing practicing steps 10-12 daily as going through the steps.Spirit Flower wrote: ↑Sun Jul 12, 2020 2:18 pmMaybe there is confusion between Bill doing the steps vs helping others do the steps; and your friend thinks that helping others counted a doing the steps.

Re: "Recovered"
thats a great topic! myself, i like what is says in the forward: We, OF Alcoholics Anonymous, are more than one hundred men and women who have recovered from a seemingly hopeless state of mind and body. happened to me ....ohhh... sometime in there. :) id say it started occuring at step 10. love them...

Re: My home group & resentment creeping in
....but yes I really do need to do the steps. ive learned theres a good reason chapter 5 starts with the sentence it does. there was a detox in the town i got sober in. clients loaded into the druggie buggie and brought to meetings. i heard numerous times from the clients, "i got to step 4 and dran...

Re: choice
good question. something i think wise to remember is the type of alcoholic that refers to- the REAL alcoholic. most REAL alcoholics have lost all power of choice of whether they can drink or not. for myself, even when i wasnt drinking i couldnt stop thinking about that next drink. letting up on the ...

Re: Sponsorship query.
My question is when did this all start? How did the programme become that? :D thats a very good question. when i came into AA 15 years ago i heard it happening. i heard many people say they stopped at step____ then got drunk. i heard some chronic relapsers say their sponsor wouldnt let them go past...

Re: The right program
For me its a catch 22. Step 5 will release me from fear. fear keeps me from step 5. it would be wise to step back a step or 4 then. step 3- Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him. my will is my thoughts my life is my actions. with those in the ca...

Re: Not at rock bottom ..but asking questions
I have seen a lot more alcoholics sitting in AA meetings questioning if they are social drinkers than I have seen social drinkers sitting in bars questioning if they are alcoholics. If you are questioning you most likely are. Welcome to the club. quite true! the prelude to the second set of stories...

Re: Not at rock bottom ..but asking questions
So I know now why I drink....it's so I don't feel anything bad . No negative stuff if I can stop after a few drinks. Before it gets too bad one of the reasons i drank, too. i learned after getting sober that if it truly worked, i wouldnt have had to keep doing it over and over. however, i can simpli...

Re: Not at rock bottom ..but asking questions
Wow, that really gives me hope! Hard to believe there will be a day when I don't think about having a drink, but your words have definitely inspired me. Until then, I will take your advice to heart. I've asked about getting a sponsor and I think that will help as well, especially when I feel weak a...

I almost feel like I won't know what to do with myself once that devil starts whispering in my ear again, except pray. HARD. REAL HARD. I'd love to hear how other people handle that desire/temptation... peanut, i dont think i know an alkie that didnt have the problem with the mental obsession early...
