Re: Still no sponsor and stopped meetings

Different meetings do different things for each of us. Maybe look for different meetings? I have attended probably 40 different meetings and have ended up with 2 or 3 regular ones that fit for me

And please tell us, what did we not ask? What do you have to tell or to ask? If you ask for help then people will help. I ask for help ALL THE TIME! 90% of my posts are asking for help so I know that people do respond and help when asked.

Re: Having a really hard night.

Just give it a chance. I didn't think it was for me but when I stopped finding excuses, it actually helped me. If you want to stop drinking...keep coming back. If you don't, then don't. You have to want it. I did NOT want to stop drinking, but I wanted a better life. Somehow both have helped me. Ple...

Re: Having a really hard night.

People do care but you need to care about yourself first. You are worth it! Try different meetings. I went to ones that I hated but kept finding different ones until I found ones that I liked. Offer to chair a meeting for a month or greet people at a meeting. Being involved helps. Don't wait for peo...

Re: Still no sponsor and stopped meetings

Walking in the doors will not fix your problem. Working the steps will help you find your solution. Please do not give up. Try different meetings, ask for help, keep doing it until you find something that will help you. I am still very new myself but I know that the small amounts of progress that I ...

Re: Fixing a relationship while getting sober

This sounds a little like some issues I am dealing with and everyone keeps telling me to concentrate on myself. It is hard to take that advise when I am given it but it is very easy to see from the outside why that would be a good suggestion for you. (Thant means for me to in my own situation) This ...

Re: Nervous about third step

Well done, Catcar, and you'll know you've working on your 3rd Step when your pen hits the paper for your 4th Step. "Immediately we launched out on... (etc 'n' all that)". As for the 'journey' this is, can you imagine what it would be like if we just stopped drinking, and that was that? I'd ha...

Re: Nervous about third step

To follow up...I did the third step with my sponsor and asked to just make it not a big deal. I just did it in the library like we do all the rest of our stuff which made me feel less stressed about it. The advise that is was just a willingness to take the rest of the steps was very helpful. I have ...

Re: Feeling sad.

What I have learned is that alcohol has a control over us that we can't stop after one or a few drinks. The danger seems in that taking one drink...we have times that we can't stop, or won't. It is SOOO hard to not drink at all and I think that we all have wanted to try to control it at times but fi...

Re: Feeling sad.

As a side note... ask your therapist about a discount if not covered by insurance. Most doctors will do that. Mine charge me $55 per appointment and his billable rate is around $160

Re: Feeling sad.

Welcome! I wish I would have had the courage to make the decision to come to AA when my son was 1.5 years old. Good for you! You will have a few more sober years with your child than I did because mine was 7 when I came in. I've had a lot of ups and downs the past few months after taking the first s...
