Re: THE VOICE IN THE HEAD

I wish I only had one voice in my head most days ... I think things would go smoother. Those voices are literally different voices for me. It's the weirdest thing. Before you call for the men in white jackets   I have this habit of 'attaching' personalities that I know of, to whic...

Or is it a bonafide character defect?
I believe it's a defect in my case. I prayed for my laziness to be removed. Now I wake up at 6.30 every morning, alarm or no. Be careful what you wish for

Re: Early Sobriety Observation: The Transformation of Dread

I had something similar. I used it to hammer home in those early days that I actually did have a problem...because normal drinkers don't think like that

How's it going Jiro? Into the steps yet?

Best wishes :)

Re: This site seems moribund, frankly.

Alcoholism is alcoholism. The craving, obsession and malady are the same across the board, whether or not a person is 20 or 60...as is the program of recovery. Since internet forums are faceless, for all I know there are several young people here, and several golden oldies. There is no guarantee tha...

Re: Bulimia and recovery

Hi Mylo, coming a little late to this discussion, as I've been offline a while. This was something I suffered from too. For myself, and I am in NO way trying to diagnose you in any way shape or form, it was heavily to do with emotional conflict and a form of control, with a pinch of self destruct th...

Re: Fantasy world.

Oh I had this down to an art, scarily. I would get this thought in my head about, say my husband, then I'd think about how the conversation was going to go. It inevitably ended in argument. Then I'd think of ways to get my point across in this argument...then he would respond in a way (in my mind) t...

Re: on day 3 and struck with insomnia

Hey folks, welcome to E-AA Withdrawals for me were shaking, sweating, extreme restlessness, and anxiety...hallucinations, had those. Insomnia was a biggy. I seem to remember feeling really achy too. I'm not really sure how long it took to get a good nights sleep, but I've been sleeping really well f...

Re: Can / Are you people doing the 12 Steps online

Hey Chances, For me, it was as simple as this - I am suffering from a fatal illness. Do the work, or die. Same as a diabetic - take the medicine, or die. It's that cut and dried. As has already been said, you could find an 'outside' person to do a fifth step with. It doesn't have to be a sponsor. my...

Re: Courage

Welcome Sunrise, good to have you here :) If you'd like to understand more about alcoholism as a disease, I can recommend googling AA big book online, and having a read of the chapters 'the doctors opinion, there is a solution and more about alcoholism'. That was a great starting point for me, to un...

Re: Who is the teacher?

Interesting thread Brock, thank you. I was lucky enough to have a very awesome, very wise sponsor, who gave me a lot of insight. He spoke a lot of truth...but what HAVE discovered about that, is these things we learn in sobriety are a lot like my alcoholism. People telling me truths, may sow a seed....

Re: History of the so-called "Dr. Bob's Third Step Prayer"

Yep, thanks indeed. I've seen that attributed to Dr Bob as well, but I'm not a history buff (yet), and just took it at face value. Always interesting to read little nuggets, such as this. I used a shorter version, in the early days when my faith was practically non existent - pre spiritual experienc...

Re: What to do...

Hi Jab, welcome to E-AA I can relate to what you're saying, in that I used to do the same thing to my husband when I was struggling - which was all of the time, pre steps. I was taking it out on the wrong person though. He could have jumped through a million hoops, trying to help and support me, but...

Re: Meetings

Hey Fairisle, welcome to E-AA Hearing the story about people who stop for a while or stop to get themselves right so they can ""reset" and drink like a normal person, it's so relatable. I get that to begin recovering means needing to change the way I think. But I don't know how to do that. I guess I...

Re: I need help.

Hey shanny, welcome to E-AA - this was my starting point too. I can relate to what you have said. I only drank on a night (It was hard not to drink during the day, at the end, though). Drink was different, but the result was the same. Mooching around the next day, feeling guilty, ashamed, sorry for ...
