Re: Resentment

It is certainly true that when we are disturbed, the disturbance is in us and this needs to be addressed but also in order to function in the world we need to make judgements about other people too and if being around them is good for us or detrimental. The key is to not get hung up about them in gr...

Re: Things people say

The longer we are around, the stronger the connection to God/HP resulting in life being a lot simpler...don't be afraid, it's a good thing - it's not that your life becomes narrower but IF you follow the path contained in the steps - which is just plain wisdom - (AA appropriates it, it doesn't own i...

Re: Caffeine

I had to give up coffee because it definitely made me more...well more of everything that I don't need more of. Tea however is great for me. Though it has caffeine it doesn't stimulate me in the same way and in fact is quite calming. I think this also bears out in the science.

Re: Resentment

You actually have a really great opportunity to deal directly with a character defect...since you know you are being false, I'm imagining what you may be doing is mirroring her behaviour to at least perhaps a small degree - you could use the next occasion to NOT do that, which may at first seem hard...

Re: Step 10 and a dry drunk??

Yes Brock, I should have said....when a car crashes on the motorway - resulting obviously in fatalities. I am suggesting there is a fault in the car - as has happened before - manufacturers in such cases try and work out what the fault is, they don't sit about in their board room I imagine talking a...

Re: Step 10 and a dry drunk??

I often don't connect with the way people talk about gratitude although I realise its fundamental importance. If a car breaks down on the motorway, are we grateful for all the good things about the car like the swish interiors or all the things that worked well in it? Do we look at the positive aspe...

Re: Fly Away.

Thanks Brock, I like the post and I agree. It's funny because just yesterday I was talking to a friend in fellowship about how we both don't have sponsors but do regularly seek counsel from other alcoholics in recovery. Because of the culture you talked about, we can feel that we are somehow not doi...

Re: The Athiest

I believe in God. God did not save me from alcoholism. My belief in God saved me and continues to save me. This distinction is often lost on Atheists. That's great for you people for whom the rooms or the people or a door knob or a tree is enough. It would not be enough for me though I believe God i...

Re: Ambiguity.

Yes I agree with you Brock, the message to me seems to relate to small strength whereas the actual message of AA is big strength that goes beyond human power.

Re: The Athiest

@ Noels

Yes! Exactly! Thats a point I also wanted to make. It is my perception that in meetings increasingly there is so much over accommodation, enabling and kow towing to the atheistic point of view... Bending the knee towards Atheism when they have come to AA for help.

Re: The Athiest

When I went to my first meeting I was ready for God. I was ready to beg and I did. I was not brought up religious and had no interest so long as alcohol fulfilled its role for me. But when alcohols effects began to taper I had moments of clarity where I realised fearfully that it was going to take s...

Re: The Athiest

(Moderator edit)mich m jong, the original speaker is not a minority view. I live in a country that is coming close to banning all forms of religious expression in public. And I don't think many see how dangerous it is. Even in AA I feel people are too sanguine about it.

Re: The Athiest

@ Blue Moon Yes really, I do believe what I wrote. I did actually delete the comment after it but somehow it still has been put up. Perhaps God decided it wasn't so high handed after all. And no, I don't expect many people to share my belief but it's spurious of you to assume that I'm a zealot. As f...

Re: The Athiest

I'm not sure if it was a serious point but someone made the suggestion that you make science your God? Hmmm, now what could be the problem with that? The problem is, (Moderator Edit) essentially it would be making man God! And what's wrong with that?

Stalinist Russia
Nazi Germany
And many more
