Re: One Year Sober. Do I need the rooms?

Congratulations on your year! I found that 12 Step recovery programs work much better when I work all 12 Steps.

Re: "Sober Since I Woke Up This Morning"...

Since I came into AA last year I've heard the above about six times. These people seem to have at least 25+ years sobriety. They also seem to have mastered the ODAAT concept and realise the past is gone. Tell me more about these individuals? Are you one of them? Thanks. Tough to make a comment or j...

Re: "Un" lucky 13?

The program was founded by one drunk dealing with the thought of a drink by helping another alcoholic. I try to keep that in mind anytime I'm feeling out of sorts.

Re: First meeting. What about my parents?

Welcome! It worked the opposite way for me. I was directed into The Fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous through family court way back in the 1970's. While I was trying to prove to everyone that I didn't have a problem with alcohol, my parents were introduced to Al-Anon. Thankfully, there were a few o...

All pamphlets and meeting list are free for the taking at my Homegroup. Newcomers at their first AA meeting are given a copy of The Big Book and a meeting list with names and phone numbers of same sex members.

Re: The Language of the Heart article & the Book

The challenge, however, is to share our common-to-all experience Maybe I missed something... is there a suggestion that we are only to share our common-to-all experience? I see in the long article that we are to be "inclusive and never exclusive" and I recall that in AA Comes of Age the story of th...

Re: Real alcoholic

As page 5 is wrapping up on the recovered/recovery topic, I felt obliged to start a new topic regarding this terminology. I understand the need for the adjective in the text to determine who may be a hard drinker or a real alcoholic. But.. When I first started going to meetings, we had a guy who sa...

Re: Recovering or Recovered?

I'm just an alcoholic. I'm not "real", "recovered", "recovering", "grateful", "happy", etc., etc. just an alcoholic. This I agree with 100%, I never use the word recovered unless one or more speakers have said they have a considerable length of sobriety, after introducing themselves as recovering a...

Re: Recovering or Recovered?

I'm just an alcoholic. I'm not "real", "recovered", "recovering", "grateful", "happy", etc., etc. just an alcoholic. The word itself says it all and adding an adjective in front of it is not necessary for me except to set me apart from other alcoholics.
