Re: Troublesome Character Defects

No where in the Big Book does it say our defects will be removed. We just have to be willing to have them removed. Some of mine have been curtailed, some have not. Before I am an alcoholic, I try to remember that I'm a human being.

Re: Alano Clubs - Breaking Tradition?

I have an issue: "Alano" Clubs. I have no issue with sober clubs per se. Lets start with the fact that Alano is short for Alcoholics Anonymous and thus violates the 6th tradition: "An A.A. group ought never endorse, finance, or lend the A.A. name to any related facility or outside enterprise, lest ...

Re: Felt like a moron after my share today

OK. I've got 3.5 months sober and I never share at meetings. I go to at least 7 meetings a week, more when I can. My sponsor has been encouraging me to share since I first got sober but I was resistant for a long time because I just didn't feel like I had much to add. Last week I made a promise to ...

Re: Ambiguity.

The Hazelden folks put out a three part daily reading for alcoholics, much like our daily reflection. The first part of today’s, I believe can be interpreted in a way which puts our program in a poor light. I will put it up, (don't worry moderators it shouldn't be an infringement of copyright). Twe...

Re: court cards

I'm also one of those under 18 old delinquents who was ordered to AA by the courts. I didn't have a drinking problem. I had a getting arrested all the time problem. I also claimed I only had a drug problem. It wasn't my drinking making me doing all the crazy crap, it was the drugs. I'll be eternally...

Re: Walked out of two meetings this week

It's been well over a month since I replied to this post and over six weeks since I attended a meeting. Here I my thoughts. I remain strong and sober. I have no desire to drink alcohol ever again. Why? Because I know what it will do to my life if I do. Did a "Higher Power" play any part of this? NO...

Re: Cross Addicted

I've never been a big fan of the circuit speaker thing. I'd much rather hear someone struggle through speaking from the heart rather than a well polished story. Our Traditions clearly state that the only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. That outweighs anyone's "opinion". I he...

In my recovery, the bible is just another history book. It doesn't matter. What matters is that I work The Twelve Steps. When my natural instincts start running wild, working with others or other service work help keep me grounded.

Re: I'm scared I may be an alcoholic later in life.

I sobered up shortly before my 18th birthday. I just turned 57 and not drinking has only kept me from drinking alcohol. It's has enabled me to have a great life. Hi, Db. Did you mean to say, "...and not drinking has NOT only kept me from drinking alcohol. It has enabled me to have a great life."? I...

Re: Plugging HA home group at AA meetings?

I've always practiced then "when in Rome" method in my recovery. When I'm in an AA meeting, it's all about Alcoholics Anonymous, when I was in NA, it's all about Narcotics Anonymous. I have a AA Homegroup and had an AA sponsor who I went through the Twelve Steps. I had an NA Homegroup and NA Sponsor...

Re: 4th Step, Big Book or 12 x 12?

I did a 4th and 5th Step from the Big Book with my AA sponsor, and a 4th and 5th Step with the 12 & 12 with my NA sponsor, but that was before NA Basic Text.
