Come to the point

My sponsor says I've come to the point where I need to start working with other people. I've been around the fellowship for just over 3 years and practicing the program for a little over 18 months. I'm not sure if someone asked me if I'd be ready to work one on one with someone, I do speak to new co...

Sobriety vs Recovery

Just been wondering what other people's take is on this perspective. From my experience being sober doesn't mean that I am recovering, I can have sobriety without recovery but not recovery without sobriety. And to say that today I do not work on staying sober I work hard on my recovery from alcoholi...

Reconciliation? Trying not to project.

I am not sure of where to go with this, so I've come here. My situation atm is my partner of nearly 7 years (today would have been our anniversary) ended our relationship a 3-4 months ago (I wasn't aware of this until about 6-8 weeks ago). We still get on well, there was not an explosive argument th...

it's been awhile

Well it has been a while since I posted here. I'm still in recovery, still working it (and to the best of my ability today). Many things have happened since I last posted, I've moved back to the UK, been made homeless, found a place to live, been in hospital for treatment for another illness I have,...

Re: ACTIVE ALCOHOLIC AT MEETINGS

Another post in agreement with others. Hi I'm Sweeney and I'm an Alcoholic (I could have edited and put that at the top but I forgot and that's why it's where it is) I went to one meeting drunk and that was almost one year ago, I went on the suggestion of my sponsor (I had recently asked a fellow to...

Unexpected Hearing of the message

It can't be just me who hears recovery in songs. I don't know if any of the writers are in recovery but I keep hearing lyrics that I ID with through my recovery Stuck in my head atm is "if you don't like what's going down you need to change something round and what you can't change you got to change...

Returning to the scene of the crime

Not sure how to start this. I've been around AA almost 2 1/2 years. I got a sponsor and started working the program at the end of August. Between that time and this I've travelled to the other side of the planet, found another sponsor and continued on my path of recovery. The thing is my visa will e...

Re: Day 2

No member should divulge your presence at an A.A. meeting to anyone else; we take this seriously and at every meeting the instructions on the yellow card are read out: http://img.Spammer/albums/v737/tosh0987/2013-03-03_11-18_alcoholicsanonymousyellow_zpsb884617e.jpg Tosh This is, for me a very impo...

Re: Day 2

Hi Kelly, My name is Sweeney and I'm an alcoholic. Welcome to the e-AA forum for me his is a great place to connect with the fellowship when I'm travelling but for me it is not as effective as a face to face meeting. The people who attended the meetings in your community are like me (I'm an alcoholi...

Re: First year around A.A. & Suggested for me not to do

Hi Bill, My sponsor said to me that suggestions like the three mentioned are my choice and that the decision to put down the drink is making a massive change. I was to do what I felt was right for me, I'm almost 5 months in the programme now and I'm on the other side of the planet. I've moved a lot,...

Re: "The Power of Choice"?

Good questions Taryn, My experience of this is that yes I was powerless and when I attempted to exert my willpower on quitting I inevitably failed. Today I exert my willpower on the the programme and I am in recovery today. I stayed sober for 6 months last year, I didn't get well and my illness prog...

Fear of Hope

I'm Becoming to have a fear of hope as hope means expectations and I've often fallen short of many expectations, my own, my ex partner, my parents. Now I have hope of recovery and I'm developing a fear of failure. I have belief that I can recover but feel that a fear of that hope is brewing somewher...

Re: Great to be back on the path

Thanks for the words of support.
Avaneesh912 it wasn't a case of a "bad" sponsor I left the UK and I'm currently in Australia and really need f2f contact with my sponsor to really engage with the steps.

I do hope this hasn't come across as standoffish or aggressive just saying
