Re: How to deal with Thanksgiving and all the alcohol
Think about this. If you had a sever allergy to peanuts, shellfish, strawberries, etc. or if your religious views prevented you from eating certain foods you wouldn't give it one moments thought to passing on them at dinner. However, with booze you feel you need to give everyone an explanation as to...

If I ever heard that at my home group, I imagine there would be some differences of opinion.

Re: Daily drinking
this would also be impossible as I don't want my daughter to hear me and I don't want my partner to know. The alcoholic mind never ceases to amaze me. You don't mind letting your daughter see you get falling down drunk and you have to hide your breath from you partner and other co-workers, but you ...

Sounds like you're where I was the morning of 2/26/91. I just meant to have a couple of beers with the guys and watch a basketball game. Instead my world went straight to hades. Made my first meeting that night and haven't had a drink since.

Re: Step 4 fear Inventory help please
Yeah, its psychological fears. Closest comes to mind is fear of losing the job, fear of dying, losing somebody....... All is not happening now, but, alcoholics being self-centered spend quite a bit of time imagining stuff. Where they could focus on what is on hand at this moment. Yeah as I understa...

Re: Not really sure how to start
Hunter, nothing has changed in some 80+ years. If you want to stop drinking liquor for good and all, and feel you need some help, we KNOW we have an answer for you. What we don't have is a way to, stick to beer, stop at three, never drink before 5pm, only drink on the weekends etc. Conventional wisd...

Re: The purpose of the Big Book. What is the problem? What is the solution?
This is a great discussion, let me add my 2 cents. The first two words following the traditional "How it Works" are "being convinced". I've heard many old timers say if you're not convinced at this point you need to go back through steps one and two. On the other hand I've heard it many times. "if y...

Re: How do I tell my sponsor and group I went out drinking again?
I've been going to my home group for over 5 years now and I went out drinking on Friday night. I was a complete mess, it's like I picked up were I left off. I'm the treasurer of my group so it's really important I tell my group that I drank. How do I tell my sponsor and the group?? I'm still emotio...

Your bottom is when you decide to quit digging.
Don't worry about trying to climb outta the hole, we jump down in there with you.
Then again, before you can get out of the hole, you need to put down the shovel.

Re: 1 year, 9 months sober - Really need help with depression/being an adult
"I have a year and nine months of sobriety in AA, am part of a strong line of sponsorship, currently on Step 12, have an active commitment, and work with other women as often as possible (when they are willing to stick around and/or do the work). AA has changed my life and allowed me an existence I ...

Re: The Purpose of Step 1
This is a good discussion. Not sure if there is a right or wrong answer. Summited for your approval.....Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results is a form of insanity and that applies to the alcoholic and that first drink that sets in motion the whole "this time it's going ...

I sure thank You Larry, if that is the prayer/opening that group uses, the traditions ...

Re: How many times did Bill Wilson do the steps?
This whole discussion reminds me of the question "How many angels can dance on the head of a pin?" What difference does it make if you take action as part of another trip trough the steps (2nd 3rd or 415th time) or take the action as a result of something you identified in step 10 or 11. Tomayto/Tom...

Oldtimers told me that if you like everybody you know in AA, you're not going to enough meetings.
