Re: My story

The first step in recovery is that realization that booze fix is not an option. And that, if we dont continue to change and evolve, we are sure to pick where we left off or ever worse. The book has several stories. Bill story in the front and mini short stories in "more about alcoholism" a...

Re: My story

They wrote the big book to illustrate how the alcoholic/addictive mind works. If you still have some doubts, read it. There are several stories to illustrate how the mind tricks us into taking that first. In Bill story, where he is determined to stay sober in the initial phase without help it has th...

Re: Just being in the Gyms Lobby and expecting results analogy!

Popular speakers have helped me immensely. Sometimes I listen to them and stuff that was greek to me before just opens up.
Absolutely. So much of clarity i got from those talks and workshops. If it was just the meetings, all I would have done is kept believing those cliches and gotten drunk again.

Re: Just being in the Gyms Lobby and expecting results analogy!

The same Chris R mentioned in the OP sometimes says ‘you are an AA member if you say you are, but that does not mean you are an alcoholic.’ Yep, because the treatment centers said so or military requirements people end up in AA. And the members who themselves a confused lot like many people here to...

Just being in the Gyms Lobby and expecting results analogy!

In one of the talks Chris R talks about people just being at the Gyms Lobby and expecting results. Thats how many in AA are. They just are part of the fellowship but dont do the real work. I started working with a person who has lot of resentment against AA because AA didn't help this person when th...

Re: Step 4 'Where were we to blame' 4th column

Net outcome of the process should be you are free. If you are still harboring resentments, you are doomed. Lot of forgiveness, yourself and the affected person. You either live together after that or part ways but either option, you walk away a free person.

Re: Wondering the stance on Marijuana

The addictive mind which has not surrendered, is going to try all the game out there. Hey one day it will realize its not working and it will lead the person in the right path. As my responsibility whenever i work with people I make it plain clear, that they not kid themselves into believing they ca...

Re: Can an unrecovered alcoholic relapse? Fred & Jim.

Jim accepted his situation but the book says he failed to enlarge his spiritual life but Jef never accepted he is alcoholic. But the main reason these stories are there in the book, is to illustrate what they talk about in page 24. "Unable to bring into consciousness the suffering or humiliatio...

Re: I want to go to rehab but I can't afford it.

My health is declining extremely at this point. I can't stop drinking, aa has never helped because I'm a hardcore atheist. I could go back to jail they offer free rehab. but I don't want to go down that road. I am told local hospitals offer a week of detoxification under medical supervision try tha...

Re: Detox and meeting question

If you have tried several times and not succeeded and if you can afford money (thru insurance or still have not bankrupted yourself) try separating yourself from alcohol by detoxing under supervision. Then when you get out start attending AA meetings and also take a deep dive into the book Alcoholic...

Re: 26th February Daily Reflection

A.A. is no success story in the ordinary sense of the word. It is a story of suffering transmuted, under grace, into spiritual progress.
Thats a great one. Pushed to the corner, thats one option available and very few take it.

Maybe you need some controlled environment to separate yourself from alcohol. If you have money/insurance think of some rehab and the like the doctors opinion suggests the brain maybe in a better position to receive solution. If you dont have money, local hospitals i am told accommodate free detox f...

Re: Step Two: No North Star

I need a Higher Power to answer to. Think of it as this way. If i believe that there is some power that can restore me to sanity and start the work, end of the process you will definitely have built a connection. Many mis-interpret the step. You dont need a higher power at this point, just an inkli...

Re: My sponsor only has 7 months sober

She had years in the program before and has worked all the steps. Is it okay to have a sponsor with only 7 months sober? As long as they transpire the right knowledge its ok. If they understand the futility and urgency to get through the steps quickly, atleast based on their experience it will be c...

Re: Why can't I think the same after drinking almost 2 fifths (1.15 L) of Caliber Vodka in a 24 hour period of time?

I feel like the problem is still there and honestly it's been making me very depressed... living with the reality that I may have shot one of the very few skills I have just scares me shitless and I don't know how I could cope like this the rest of my life. I think about this all the time to the po...
