Re: is it enabling to pay sober living house rent for a relative

If we do pay more rent, is there any way to ask for some kind of accountability that also respects boundaries? Dont know. If the candidate is thoroughly beaten to a point of surrender, it might work. You could suggest separation. If they are not considering it and get defensive, it would suggest th...

Re: Any advice on getting a sponsor

I agree to what has already been said. There is a talk that one could help another if they are just a day sober than the other. Thats totally bull crap. The person who is sponsoring you has a responsibility of guiding you through the process so you have a thorough understanding of the whole 12 steps...

Re: DO NOT READ THIS POST IF YOU DON'T LIKE READING ABOUT CRITICISM OF AA!

I remember a guy named Scott who had visited us, his first AA meeting at the correction facility, he had floundered from one correction facility to another past 14 years, interestingly he never saw signs for a AA meetings in those facilities. I am not sure its true but its possible. But then we hand...

Re: DO NOT READ THIS POST IF YOU DON'T LIKE READING ABOUT CRITICISM OF AA!

Its a complex disease. Even some of those in recovery are in AA dont have complete understanding of the concepts, let alone those from outside. My observation is there are lot of hard drinkers who were just asked to go to AA wake up one day that they have wasted many years in AA while they could hav...

Re: Steps 1, 2 & 3

So my question is, has anyone else found a way to get steps 1/2/3 done without having to read Docs Opinion, Bills Story, there is a solution, more about..., and we agnostics? I do make it clear to the person I’m working with that we WILL be going back to read these chapters though. I personally bel...

Re: Helped sponsee decide that she’s NOT alcoholic

So what other questions/point do you suggest I bring up specifically? I’m at a stand still here. Not sure if I should try one more time or just leave it alone. I will also bring up the "Restlessness, irritability, and discontentment" and other emotions we deal with when not drinking. I usually use ...

Re: Helped sponsee decide that she’s NOT alcoholic

"Working with others chapter" talks about we sharing the struggles we undergo staying stopped. That peculiar twists we go through prior to the first drink. The subtle insanity. We know we have a problem, but we kind of push the agony behind and succumb to the desire. In 2 places on page 92 it talks ...

Re: One day at a time

That kind of experience are fine for some moderately afflicted people. But the alcoholic cannot survive a temporary fix. The obsession could come back real hard and he/she could be blind-sighted. Thats why its very important to realize what powerlessness and un-manageability really mean. How are the...

Re: Don't know if AA is right for me

have had some success, namely this last week in which I did not have a single drink in any of the 7 days. Welcome to the forum. Try to stay stopped for a year and more importantly observe how you handle your emotions. Is there discontentment? Are you irritable? Restless? You could add more like bor...

Re: The Variety of Religious Experience

My question: does it talk about other religions? Does it talk about ancient religions? And if you care to ~ Did it help you at all in forming a Higher Power personal to you? I think our mind keeps us in that spot where it constantly feels insecure that we are missing out on something. I got more ou...

Re: Singleness of Purpose

Welcome to the forum. Glad to have you here. For me, I for on the struggle they go through to stay stopped. The alcoholic torture we have to endure when we are out there trying to quit on our own. I found a speech online where the speaker talks about how restless irritable and discontented he got th...

Re: I Once Had 6 Years, Now I'm Losing Everything

We had a great talk, then I stopped in Walgreen's for some otc meds to assist my withdrawals. Walked out with more beer. This is a fragile phase of recovery. We are all vulnerable. And we do run into these blank spots or sometimes hit the peculiar mental twist as the book talks about. Surround your...
