Re: Not at rock bottom ..but asking questions

One beer no harm. But in the store beforehand- my dilemma whether to get one or two, now that one was "allowed" I could probably get away with a second. So I did, and had one in secret, quickly, This is the peculiar mental twist the book talks about. Normal drinkers have nothing like this. The mini...

Re: When will I feel normal?

Untreated alcoholism manifests in an alcoholics thru various forms. Anxiety, depression are some of the same. Eckhart tolle groups them as “awakening is the pain body”. And to address that we in AA suggest that the members work the 12 steps of aa. So when the pain body awakens we can squash that and...

Re: Sharing our story

No its not about critiquing the inventory. What i meant was there is a segment where it says self-appraisal is insufficient. There is doubt about that. In actual practice, we usually find a solitary self-appraisal insufficient. Many of us thought it necessary to go much further. We will be more reconc...

Re: Sharing our story

So many forget that the BB says it is not the singular answer just one that works for many. I think that using it in conjunction with other tools give me the best chance of sobriety. Those that push back against this do nothing for AA and even push people away. I hope those that choose to read this...

Re: Continue to watch for ...

Its important to catch when it arises. All the selfishness and self-centeredness arise as a thought form and before it affects us or others we try to catch it. So observing ourselves is the key. We are not going to be successful all the time, then comes the amends process and we restart the process ...

Re: CoronaVirus - How can we be helpful?

The greatest thing we could do is empower ourselves with knowledge about this disease. Taking a deep dive into the basic text. So when we run into someone seeking help we can be of maximum use. We can distinguish between a disco drunk, a hard drinker and then the real alcoholic so we can provide hel...

Re: Becoming Sober in a family full of denial

There are non-alcoholics who dont have a clue why we drank like this and then the people with with problem who are not in a state of mind to accept that their life is unmanageable. I only remember a very poignant cartoon I saw on grapevine where a guy sitting on a stool with with a drink/bottle in h...

Re: Only now, after I lost pretty much everything...

We hear this a lot in AA, "Nobody comes into AA on an winning streak". That could be taken in a negative way by outsiders but we alcoholics know, that no good alcoholic ever surrenders until something happens within. I am glad that from what I read, you probably are that stage to realize that this b...

Re: Step 11 - Meditation. A different meaning?

Contentious thinking: absorbed contemplation: a devotional exercise consisting of dwelling in thought upon a religious or ethical subject. This appears to be the opposite of what we class as meditation these days. Meditation to me is about learning to watch our thoughts & becoming unattached from t...

Re: How to work the work in from the start!?

In addition, besides prayer and meditation, how else can i try and not be in "self"? I didn't know first of all that I was selfish and self-centered. To begin with, I didnt even know the difference between the 2 terms/words here. To be selfish is very clear. But what does it mean to be self-centere...

Re: Spiritual sickness brought on by drinking?

Inferences change, we now know more about alcoholism. Why do people even take a drink? Its some form of malady. "A lack of". Some show prominent signs of irritability and restlessness. My father was one of them but he never drank. I wish he did. Perhaps he could have found a solution. For some its s...

Re: The purpose of the Big Book. What is the problem? What is the solution?

Someone has also suggested to me that the problem is alcohol & if we never drank in the first place we wouldn't suffer from alcoholism. I see where he is coming from but that is a past event & at some point within our drinking we crossed a line & lost all power. After this point the spiritual malad...

Re: Coming back and have questions

I get sober and I’m so miserable it drives me back to drinking Thats what some people call it un-treated alcoholism. Unlike some shares in the meeting where we hear "they felt great after they quit drinking" if we are alcoholic and not take action, we do get miserable. Thats where the 12 steps come...

Re: Questions heard at meetings.

It shows humility that we are sincerely taking effort to fix ourselves. Its part of the process. Thats were we have a shift in our attitude toward others. For me, like others pointed out love and tolerance started creeping in as I started making amends. Dr. Bob story also showed that we may get drun...

Re: Sponsorship query.

So if you don't sponsor do you guys bring people through the book just not with the sponsor label? I try my best to help another alcoholic understand the relationship between un-manageability and powerlessness. And how "in-action" could lead us back to those strange mental blind-spot. At that point...
