Re: Should I find a new sponsor?

I would definitely say yes. Find a person who can transmit the knowledge. What un-manageability really means and how it leads us back into those strange blind spots or in some cases the obsession to drink (they get into the zone where they deliberate and be obsessed and get drunk). Obviously this pe...

Re: Addicts in AA meetings?

I have heard you mention that before & don't know how to help you change that where you are. I dont think we can do anything. There are so many treatment centers around here who dump all forms of people they treat. it could be drug addicts, alcoholics, it doesn't matter. Like Chris R talks about th...

Re: Hence we are at pains

Maybe they mean something related to painstaking? Like they are working on this carefully and diligently? It made sense to me when I substitute we have difficulty for we are at pains =biggrin Hence we have difficulty to tell why we think our present faith is reasonable, why we think it more sane an...

Hence we are at pains

Logic is great stuff. We liked it. We still like it. It is not by chance we were given the power to reason, to examine the evidence of our senses, and to draw conclusions. That is one of man’s magnificent attributes. We agnostically inclined would not feel satisfied with a proposal which does not l...

Re: self-knowledge / powerlessness

About powerlessness- I thought I was changing my mind but my alcoholism was. I thought I was making choices but alcohol was choosing for me. In the book in several segments, the authors talk about the "peculiar mental twist that precedes the first drink". In working with others, it talks about we d...

Re: Stale Homegroup

How many times d0 you meet? And what is the format of the meetings? If its open discussion meetings, you may want to change them into literature based meetings more geared to help the newcomers understand the concepts laid out in the book. Take a deep dive into the big book You know after about 10 y...

Re: Addicts in AA meetings?

Didn't the International meet in your city one time? It did. And in the closing ceremony, the person from Australia was talking about outside issues and no one stopped him from sharing it. I even asked the people who came with me, how the heck did they pick him. And vividly remember this early in m...

Re: Addicts in AA meetings?

If you raise concern, there will be 30 others opposing you. Thats the state of the fellowship today. Dont lose your sobriety over it.

Re: self-knowledge / powerlessness

For me realization that i am an alcoholic propelled me to work the rest of the steps and help experience the promises. Right knowledge of the disease is necessary but thats just for conclusion. That in itself cannot be a solution as they state in the paragraph leading into Fred the accountant story:...

Re: Reading in a meeting

Not necessarily. I have seen people pass the read all the time for various reasons. Common reason is, they forgot the reading glass. Perhaps you can use that too. But then some nuckle-head could hand you his reading glasses, then you are toast. lol.

Re: Fantasizing

Revisit the steps with another sponsor. Perhaps you can have a different perspective of step one. Powerlessness and Unmanageability are some of key concepts that we need to understand and imbibe and have a deep realization that we are an alcoholic/addict and that this is a lifelong effort to stay sp...

Re: Questions heard at meetings.

My sponsor got sober at a treatment center, and uses some Hazelden guides in his sponsorship. These are working for me, but I worry, because I sometimes hear people insisting at meetings, that the Big Book way is the only way. I have no idea what the these guides entail. After being in the rooms fo...

Re: Hi. So 26 years in the waiting.

My question can people like me change? Of course. I was edging toward the same. Fortunately I had that ah ah moment and sought help and my shrink guided me to attended AA and seek a spiritual solution. Didn't know much but I did take that piece of advice 13 years ago and life as is, is way better t...

Re: Are we powerless over alcohol?

Then, if there was a Cure/Drug or other, for the Obsession to drink, would I survive on it without the Program, Fellowship, and the Steps? Maybe. Only very few are spiritually sick. Those are the guys who go in and out, in and out, because they havent got the grasp of the disease. There are lot of ...
