Re: Help with an amend...

We're still a pretty opinionated lot, wouldn't you agree? In the end, Tosh will do what is right for himself, his sobriety, and his family. He'll know how to prioritize that.

Thanks for weighing in, Mike!

The need was created when Tosh asked for input and comments.

Re: Help with an amend...

All life situations are not the same. The process of amends must allow some flexibility. We can neither put it off nor turn it into a party where the purpose is lost. Tosh will figure it out.

Re: Day 1

Here's where you learn that sobriety is an inside job. As you learn to navigate through irritations you will notice that it is only your response to the irritations and not the irritations themselves that are so troublesome. Whether or not you weren't feeling up to par, it would have been good to re...

Why not let the recipient of the amends choose?

Oh my, Bill. You're on that roller coaster that asks you to change your perceptions from one week to the next - first you're at the pinnacle and everything is going smoothly, and then you're back in the depths wondering what the hell happened, and "why doesn't this program work for me when it seems ...

Re: AA and religion etc...

btnben/slh: Nobody here minds legitimate questions posed by people who are genuinely interested in pursuing sobriety through the program of A.A. If you have a different agenda then your quest is futile because the point will come when no one responds and - game over. So do you want to explore sobrie...

Re: AA and religion etc...

The priest will be able to decipher what was said within the context of the sequence of events. I still stand by my opinion that he needs to come to a deeper understanding of Alcoholics Anonymous - what it is and what it is not. From the way you posted his opinion he seems quite dismissive. But of c...

Re: AA and religion etc...

You're Protestant but you have a priest?

In any event, when considering any of the Ten Commandments, the Big Book is in spiritual alignment. What's the nature of your problem?

Re: AA and religion etc...

Your priest considers this a violation of the Second Commandment: "Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain"? Why? There is absolutely nothing blasphemous or heretical in the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous. If anything, the text calls upon us to develop or regenerate a relationship...

Re: Help with an amend...

Is this a 9th Step letter? Is she too far away to make amends in person? I know that distance was one thing I counted on in making my toughest amends, to the woman whom my husband left for me. He called me one day after we were divorced and she was visiting him from Manhattan. Suddenly she was (gulp...

Re: Best friends become enemies

I suspect that if you began to share with them your reliance on God to navigate your days, most of your so-called friends would run like rabbits. I'm hoping you're not trying to do this alone, and that you have friends in the program and a sponsor and a Higher Power who infuses you with qu...

Re: Rethinking powerlessness

stephanienc, Of course Lee played a major part in achieving his own sobriety. The Steps which are suggested as a program of recovery require our participation. Not our CULT-LIKE participation. In fact, the text allows plenty of wiggle room for athiests, agnostics and others who may have difficulty i...
