Re: Help with sponsee?

I guess my ego is slightly hurt because I can't find the 'words' to encourage him to do what I honestly think is in his best interests. Sounds as if you already have found the words, and let him know. Just my opinion and experience, but these sponsoring opportunities are as much about our own growt...

Re: Step 9 - when is it okay to write a letter?

What I found -- and this is just the way it worked for me -- was that once I put an amends on my list, it stayed there until it was made. I could cross it off the list, but if I hadn't really made an amends, it wouldn't go away. It was always with me until I took the correct, or sufficient, action t...

Re: Using You Tube to 'carry the message', what's your thoughts?

From Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions (p. 184): "The spiritual substance of anonymity is sacrifice. Because A.A.'s Twelve Traditions repeatedly ask us to give up personal desires for the common good, we realize that the sacrificial spirit -- well symbolized by anonymity -- is the foundation of the...

Re: treatment centres flooding aa

Yes, good. I like this one, too. It illustrates our new "design for living" that we acquire based on the principles in the 12 Steps. For example, as you suggest, if there's something we don't want to do, just lie and say we did it.

Keep 'em comin'.

Re: treatment centres flooding aa

Yes, this is a great solution, too. It assures the group that far fewer prospects will show up, and that means more time for the sober AAs to swap stories with other sober AAs, which, as we all know, is far more interesting and useful than talking to those unappreciative and inattentive new people. ...

Re: treatment centres flooding aa

That the people running any particular treatment centre are incompetent (don't know the difference between heroin addiction and alcoholism, for example) is not our (AA's) problem. Of course those patients don't want to be in an AA meeting. They probably didn't really want to be in the treatment cent...

And if you can read PDF files, here's a piece of AA service material, produced by GSO (US/Canada), on the subject, "Sharing Experience on Coping With the Influx of New Members":

Re: Choosing (and keeping) a Sponsor

My first sponsor was also my third sponsor. He fired me twice: once because I was temporarily sponsoring ... a woman (OMG!), and once because he saw me talking to a fellow everyone respected and who sponsored a lot of people (I guess he thought I was about to change sponsors and wanted to beat me to...

Re: Choosing (and keeping) a Sponsor

Seems to me that it should be obvious that "we are not saints." I mean, clearly, every time I point out (or you point out or anyone points out) that others are flawed, that "they" are doing something wrong, it says something about ... me. It says I'm flawed. "The inventory was ours, not the other ma...

Re: One for All and all for One ! UNITY NOT DIVERSITY

Dear Alcoholic, " ... Lack of power, that was our dilemma. We had to find a power by which we could live, and it had to be a Power greater than ourselves. Obviously. But where and how were we to find this Power? "Well, that's exactly what this book [Alcoholics Anonymous] is about. Its main object is...

Re: Where can I get a big book that you all talk about?

The pricing of the book Alcoholics Anonymous, and other literature, has no profit motive. The price is directly related to the prudent reserve of AA World Services, Inc., which operates the General Service Office (US/Canada). If the prudent reserve dips below where it should be, the price of some li...

Originally posted by tracy: ... It is correct that the word sponsor is not in the big book. No, not correct. It is in the book. In the stories. For those interested in actual (rather than imagined) A.A. history, here's a link to the first pamphlet on sponsorship (1944 by Clarence S., printed and distributed by the Cleveland A.A. Central Committee):
