Re: Can AA actually work for me?

Group conscience, I have been a member of this website for a couple months and was never informed of any meetings. How often are these meetings held? I can help with that. Meetings are held online when the need arises, normally only those who have been members for three months can join the group co...

I don't have an argument to make. As a scientific atheist I suggest that you check out this website.

Quite simply "Attraction rather than promotion."
I am a living example for her. She says she is happy that I am sober. That she has back the man she married.

Getting Wife to Choose Sobriety

I never realized how much my wife drank until I got sober. I have been trying to encourage her to stop drinking. I don’t think she is just a heavy drinker. My attempts have mostly been pointing out how her drinking has negatively affected her health. After a bad bout of drinking, usually on the week...

Re: The Birth of AA

My AA reading group is halfway through Dr. Bob and the Good Old Timers. Quite a lot of details on how it all got started. An Interesting read and even humorous at times.

Re: The right program

Here I'll have to work through it myself. As an atheist I don't believe in god. No god = no god of my understanding. have ya read the chapter,"we agnostics?" I read the first 164. My first two day in rehab, then with my sponsor and again in a reading group My reaction is bemusement. The definition ...

Re: The right program

For me its a catch 22. Step 5 will release me from fear. fear keeps me from step 5. it would be wise to step back a step or 4 then. step 3- Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him. my will is my thoughts my life is my actions. with those in the ca...

Re: The right program

I have going through this back and forth of deciding if AA is not right for me or if I am not just ready for it, or, or, or... As a firm atheist I also debated such questions. And we all know the mind of an alcoholic while in debate mode! ~ ~ :| ~ ~ I can say this - on...

The right program

I have going through this back and forth of deciding if AA is not right for me or if I am not just ready for it, or, or, or... I have looked at other programs. SMART seems like taking classes, everything is an exercise: making a list, a chart, a diagram, etc… I never did like schoolwork so that puts...

Re: I drink because my life is ruined

I want to stop but doing that would require things getting better in life and that isn't possible. This is not true. You can't control the world around you. You can control they way you approach life and choose to deal with it. First off stop drinking. Alcohol is a depressant. It is going to keep y...

Re: Sometimes Quickly, Sometimes Slowly

I hope that all of the consequences of my actions fall only on me. Oh no you don't, you don't get to short change me on consequences, they are too valuable and full of insights as long as my mind is open. :~) ... each one of us is also unique. You are quite right Layne. Sorry for stirring the pot. ...

Re: Sometimes Quickly, Sometimes Slowly

Everyone has bad days. There are a multitude of beliefs on cause and effect. One person's flippant is another person's aha. The best I can do is to try and follow the suggestions of the peace prayer of St Francis. I am certain PaigeB didn't intend harm but I felt I should point out how it was taken...
