Re: Sharing Experience

...but I was astounded to read what he shared without so much as a "In my opinion." Please keep in mind, that my ‘modified’ preamble came after you said this - “When did AA cease to be a fellowship and become a program? THE PREAMBLE was introduced in the June 1947 issue of the AA Grapevine magazine...

Re: Acceptance - page 417 Big Book

"nothing happens in God's world by mistake" To me, not a strong believer if at all (depends what we mean by "God"), this means that it may be helpful to look at supposedly negative occurrences and figure out how to use them to our advantage. Even if someone is being mean to us without reason, let's...

Re: Highest Position in AA!

I hear the phrase "a person needs to get active in the program". However, washing ash trays, making coffee, etc. is NOT the program. Those activities just allow a person to be among other sober people which we all need to do. Especially if a person is new. Washing ash trays, making coffee, etc., so...

Re: Acceptence - page 417 Big Book

One old-timer I knew had an interesting take on the "nothing happens in God's world by mistake" angle: not everybody is living in God's world. If acceptance was all that's required, I would still be drinking. I admitted and accepted my alcoholism long before walking into AA. What I had not yet acce...

Re: Highest Position in AA!

y first time here and already I can see this is like a real, live AA meeting. A topic is introduced and soon somebody drifts off topic and away we go. The following quoted words from a response to the topic caught my eye. "The A.A. program is summed up on one sheet of paper that lists the 12 steps....

Singleness of Purpose???

Any thoughts on the concept of "Singleness of purpose? In my mind our purpose is to stay sober and help others attain sobriety. Yet old timers get upset when some one mentions drugs at a meeting. Until an addict admitted he was powerless over his drug of choice that person has no chance to recover. ...

Re: Acceptence - page 417 Big Book

Two points : A young girl who was a member of one of the meetings I attend went back out and overdosed. She left behind a six year old daughter. I may have a unusual view on the essence of a higher power, but in what universe would that girl's death not "be a mistake"? One of my home group members a...

There has been numerous times I have walked of meetings early. The reasons are usually that there might be one person ther...

Acceptance - page 417 Big Book

I've been around A.A. for about 20 years but I am new to this forum so please bear with me. I've had a situation happen recently that brought the page 417 reading to mind. Specifically the part that reads "Nothing, absolutely nothing, happens in god's world by mistake." Before I going into detail ab...
