Re: step 6 and 7

My experience is that becoming "entirely ready" is not merely a game of mental gymnastics. Many times, for me, becoming "entirely ready" takes a whole lot of action.

Re: Why am I so F*** afraid to get well than to stay sober?

Agree with avaneesh. Our mind/thinking is the core of our problem. Generating fear is a great way for the alcoholic mind to keep justifying drinking. A scarier thought is that even without that fear - you'll drink anyways! The fear just makes you feel like you've got a legit excuse to continue. Sick...

Re: Expressing Dissatisfaction.

Being sober, how do we express our anger, impatience, and displeasure, without actually getting angry! 10th step inventory. The 10th isn't just about what we do , it's about what we think . Step 11 will help you to become more self-aware of your own thinking. Catch these thoughts as they happen and...

For me, and where I am at right now, I would say newcomers make a great meeting. I like seeing new faces.

I'm with ya. I don't really care for this time of year, either. I could go on a European vacation for what I spend during Christmas... maybe I'm a miser?

Re: New sort of: my husband doesn't drink but he wants me to

I second Brock's post. =biggrin The fact that you stated you are having a hard time stopping says quite a bit, imo. As for the husband, it's hard to say why he wants you to drink. Sometimes those who love us are in just as much denial as we are, if not more. They can be co-dependent too. Can't hurt ...

Re: race and culure

Does recovery take cultural issues into consideration? The 3rd tradition, I believe, would address the issue of exclusion of certain people because of their culture. Traditions 2 and 4 can let the group itself determine if a particular cultural leanings are acceptable for the group or not. Most thi...

Re: BBS (10/21/17) continued - BILL'S STORY

In many ways, I am very different from Bill - I wasn’t alive in the 1920’s, I’m a woman, I’m not a stockbroker, I suck at golf, and I didn’t fight in a war. However, I can still relate to much of what Bill felt. As I reread this chapter today, what struck me was how I could relate to how Bill ran hi...

Re: Why am I the nail right now

I was like you in early sobriety. There was no pink cloud. I felt just terrible! But you know, it wasn't sobriety that was making me feel terrible. It was my alcoholism. You take the booze away from an alcoholic, and they feel like crap! We're restless, irritable, and discontent. So, what you're fee...

Re: Where are the educated alcoholics?

In early sobriety, my experience is that people will pretty much come up with any excuse not to get better. All of these excuses, like "people don't have degrees" or "I drank because of loneliness," are all part of what our program describes as "the obsession of the mind." The mental obsession is mo...

Never heard of the term backbone in relation to the program.

Step 3 is called the "keystone" but that's not quite the same thing, is it?

Re: BBS (10/18/17) - THE DOCTORS OPINION

Thank God for Dr. Silkworth - a man who tirelessly gave to alcoholics and tried to help them. The Dr's Opinion probably had the most profound affect on me than any other section of the book because it was within these pages that I realized the true nature of my condition. I had known for many years ...

Re: What's the point of doing a 90 And 90?

I did 90 in 90 - and although it is only a suggestion, I think it can be a helpful one. I learned who people in the meetings were and gained a level of comfort being around others. I found a sponsor who started me on the steps. I also heard some really great suggestions in those early days from memb...

Re: What's the point. I can't keep doing this.

I suffered through terrible anxiety and panic attacks in early sobriety. I would have panic attacks in meetings all the time. I always sat by the door so I would have an escape route. What I believe helped me through this terribly difficult time was prayer. Even though I wasn't sure I really believe...
