Re: People Who Were Already Christians Before Becoming Alcoholics?

As it was mentioned above addictive nature doesn't not discriminate; but those who have a relationship with Jesus can overcome this disease and for me I am not cured as today I have no desire to drink and I fully believe I have been relieved of that part of the symptom called alcoholism. Those pesky...

Re: Step 8

In a treatment program you are normally allowed to go out and attend meetings in a group and even have meetings inside the facility with outsiders if you are staying onsite. So if you have attended a step meeting I would think that the people in that meeting could provide insight on there experience...

Re: Struggling

A lot of factors go into us wanting to quit and get back to what we thought we did well at------> Drinking and drugging and the end result is the same and it is a vicious cycle to shake off. I recently contacted a friend of mine who saved my hide and even gambled on my capabilities of a employee 30 ...

Re: Ok to step out of a service commitment?

So for my personal sobriety I am responsible to myself and I must remember I can't save the world and I have to keep my mind solely on the literature of AA and those principles I am supposed to represent. I will not slump to wit those with stupid stickers on their foreheads!!!! I instead made it cle...

Re: AA satisfaction survey from AA member

Why are you looking for satisfaction from us? Sounds like another one of those college thesis things. If you want satisfaction I would suggest doing a face to face with other members in an open meeting.

My story doesn't matter to anyone but me and this I know.

Re: Retread No One Wants to Touch

If you live in Waller, Tx. then you know of the amount of meetings in the Houston Metro. Personalities are part of us ALL! I was a 3 time retread before it stuck and the amount of times coming back IMHO don't matter as much as sticking around and working on you, reading and participating in things i...

Re: Breakup with my Sponsor after almost 30 years

I can't qualify after 30 years sober myself and for me it is because of my past jobs and moving every few years that prevented me from getting overly attached.

If I may I would caution you on the inner turmoil you are in as that thought of a drink comes as a thief in the night.

Re: Boredom

Great news on the 60 days! All I might add is you aren't cured and time management is a learning curve. if you have kids then that should eat up a lot of time and if not then I would highly recommend engaging yourself into damage control mode. Things get better and looking for that perfect thing mig...

Re: First post

Welcome!!! You know your story you posted is a reminder to all of us who have time sober that it is still the same on the outside if we decide to try our luck. But for you the overwhelming things that come with early sobriety are very real. Time can heal and also understanding of our destructive pas...

Re: Sobriety and the Dentist

I believe the most concern is if the doctor offers pain medication and how you deal with that? I would also say that if you are in the rooms then you know pain is a motivator and you are going to have to face this situation eventually and in this case quality of life is and or could become questiona...

Re: New bad habits

this topic is serious and yet real because what I spent my money on after sobriety was on stupid stuff and so it is part of finding me! Balance, and learning to cope with people who are positive in the rooms. You don't have all the answers and neither do I. but I will know how to handle issues in a ...

Re: Anonymity

There is a phase about the newcomer and the willingness to give a hand whenever called. Exact words might be off but I know this to be true because I've heard it a lot of times over the years and honestly take it for granted as one of the slogans. Gotta be smart about how you approach anonymity beca...

Re: Working for fellow AAs

I called a fellow about my roof and it was a guy from AA. I knew his face and I thought he had some ethics and a good path in sobriety. I turned down his offer and my brother in -law was over and he is a skilled builder and he fixed the issue with my flashing. I didn't need a new roof!!!!! I also ha...

Re: AA Preamble

I have 30 plus years sober and my thoughts on this are the following: AA meeting where and when and if they care they will come and if not then they ain't ready. I am from the old school and I know that even back in the day it was called out AA. Live and learn and go in peace. You have a lot to offe...

Re: Inappropriate Spending without Group Conscience

Wow people, egos are at work with those sisters in your community! This topic is one that can become extremely resentful laden and someone is going to go away mad and even might get drunk! As a GSR I have to inquire about other locations in your community? Why do you/they have to keep the meeting in...
