Re: Sober music community

Thank you all for your replies! For me, in sobriety, I thought that the music wouldn't be the same--that the music musicians made in recovery was inferior to the stuff they made when they were active in their addictions or their use. I would get this pity party where I would think I was some sort of...

Stinking thinking

I'm sorry if this isn't sober thinking or discussion, but yesterday was kind of scary I have almost three years sober, and am doing pretty well. I am about to graduate from a Masters program, finally have a full time job, and am pretty happy. However, yesterday, I found myself thinking about drinkin...

Re: Any Jazz fans?

Do big bands count as jazz? :D I have been getting more and more into the big band swing era lately. Reminds me of some of the old movies I watched in my youth. :) Me too! A lot of those legendary band leaders--like Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Woody Herman, and Harry James--were also great at thei...

Re: Any Jazz fans?

I've been going to Smalls every Friday for the 4-7 PM jam. Really phenomenal stuff, but I don't want to drink there.

Sober music community

Hey all, So, I've been really getting into music over the last couple of years, and often the really good creative stuff feels like it's a gift from the higher power. I went to Small's last night and the music was just phenomenal. Unfortunately, at a lot of the venues I go to, there's alcohol. I've ...

Re: Sober Musician

Hi Jimmy! And hello to everyone else! I'm a musician, and for a long time in early sobriety I thought that music wouldn't be the same sober. Even in sobriety, I connected music with self destructive behavior akin to drug seeking behavior; I would go off my psych meds to appreciate music more. That, ...

Thanks. In sobriety we discover that there's a world outside of ourselves.

Powerlessness

My name is Sam and I'm a cross-addicted alcoholic. 100% powerless over drugs and alcohol. But I think I might be powerless over other things as well. When I get stuck in my own head, misery ensues. When I start thinking that because I crossed my legs a certain way, that it's a relapse, boy that hurt...

When I was on vacation in Miami, I did a lot of cycling and it felt great! Unfortunately, I live in New York, and due to weather, cycling is not a current possibility :(

Any Jazz fans?

So I've been really digging the Jazz greats lately, and sometimes it's almost like a higher power thing. The creativity, the imagination, you know?

Any other Jazz fans? John Scofield, Mike Stern, and Herbie Hancock are all sober now!

I kind of feel like drinking

Haven't had a drink or a non perscribed mood altering substance since July of 2012, but I've got a few bucks in my bank account and the liquor store is only a 10 minute walk or so. I feel like i don't even have a higher power.

On third step with sponsor

So I'm on my third step with my sponsor and he has me finding three pieces of evidence of a higher power in my life.

I'm struggling with this because most of my "god moments" are from a while ago.

Re: Sorry if this is a stupid question

Last night I took 10mg rather than 20mg. I've been advised to take the full dose tonight.
