Re: Making words mean what you want them to mean?

Well the spiritual realm is God. Bottom line: I've so-far stayed sober and relatively sane for a long time without having to accept anyone else's definition of what God is (or isn't). Well I'll tell you this Blue Moon, I wouldn't stay sober or sane if I relied on this site, the way people talk past...

Making words mean what you want them to mean?

Whats the harm eh? It dilutes the message and aids and abets confusion. I'm talking about atheism. A lot of atheists don't know what atheism means. I know a few who say things like....I dont believe in God but I am spiritual. Well the spiritual realm is God. Someone more PC than me would probably st...

Re: The Athiest

Thanks for the lecture Seratonin, what you said is basically the popular consensus. I myself get pretty tired of that old chestnut, the dull mantra that AA has nothing do do with religion and AA is not religious. Well its not religious in that you don't have to convert or ascribe to any particular r...

Re: The Lords prayer

soberguy27 Hello, You say let's be consistent. Actually I'd say lets NOT be consistent. Consistency - such a gentle word and yet Hitler, Stalin, Mao....those gentle characters were champions of consistency. People love to fly the flag of about AA not being religious. Well it kind of is and it kind o...

Re: AA Groups and AA meetings....Necessary?

[quote="Mary"]Brock, In my experience, bad coffee is a thing of the past. Meetings I attend offer filtered. There is also herb tea. Admittedly, the seats are XXXX but they help to keep me awake by sitting up straight. Thanks for calling the wheelchair bound man a cripple. Hilarious ...he calls himse...

Re: AA Groups and AA meetings....Necessary?

Hi Patsy, I thought I picked you up correctly and regardless of what it may sound like I also am not opposed to members attending meetings online. I do not attend online meetings I log in to an Alcoholics Anonymous Discussion forum from time to time (like now) which I do NOT believe is the same thin...

Re: AA Groups and AA meetings....Necessary?

Who are these people who can't get to face to face meetings? Cant or won't? Why do they live so far from meetings that it's impossible to get to one? Is their primary purpose to stay sober or is it to live like a hermit tapping away on their computer? If they live near any industry in the western wo...

Re: AA Groups and AA meetings....Necessary?

The post brings up my whole ambivalence about online aa...I have found the site very helpful for ironing out issues around the steps and the programme but when it comes to actual life or death alcohol related situations, I really do wonder about this kind of tool enabling people to stay away from me...

Re: AA Groups and AA meetings....Necessary?

Yes, I would agree. To say that the only difference between online and face to face is one of format - well the tone kind of diminishes what format actually is - perhaps it was a robot that wrote it or someone severely spectrumed.

Re: Anxiety and Recovery

Hey Tim, I liked what you had to say...especially regards people pleasing and trusting that God wants something far better for us and is using our character defects to cleanse us - a very helpful way of looking at it. Instead of getting bogged down in the pain and tragic story we can thus create abo...
