Re: First meeting
Chris -- alcoholic. So, I did treatment twice when I was young to mid-20s and it didn't take (other than when I did hit bottom I had that base to KNOW I hit bottom). Seeing you doctor is good -- there's a few things they may want to do. I had a liver scan to check for issues (turns out there were is...

Re: A share
My immediate family drank pretty heavily. My dad never really had a problem with it -- he could cut it off. My mother, brother and myself -- not so much. Once started we didn't stop until all the alcohol was gone or we couldn't stay awake. I too never drank in the morning. I only drank after work un...

Thinking on Meetings
Hey -- Chris, alcoholic. So, I was thinking, in reading in the "Newcomers" section about going to meetings and not relating and such, about own experience. I was thinking how early my experience in life made it more difficult to quit maybe -- and this my personally -- not a generalization. i tried 3...

Re: I've made it 24 hours
Keep it up and participate as much as you can in treatment -- I found that until I engaged and approached it as a positive thing -- as something I needed to 'do' rather than 'hear' I got more out of it. Afterward -- meetings, meetings, meeting. THe first year I did tons of meetings at least twice/th...

Re: Hello
Hey man -- I can honestly say 'yes' -- I got a major buzz just going into the liquor store -- it was like I was giddy. There's been studies with monkeys where they give the monkey something sweet for a long time, then they start to ring a bell before monkey the sweet thing, eventually they stop givi...

Re: What's the spiritual principle of step 3?
In my experience, as a life longer spiritual seeker, this on is always a struggle -- but the concept is simple. Don't rely on yourself, don't think YOU are powerful enough to do it alone. It's an acknowledgement that your (or any alcoholic/addict) willpower is not strong enough to gain sobriety and ...

Re: Three and a half months sober, but still having 'moments
Hey NL, I can relate, there have been moments (in the my 5 years sober) where I have been in situations like that. One was with my boss when I was new to the company and we traveled. I sat with him and co-working as they proceeded to get pretty wasted and I drank water. It was awkward for me, until ...

Re: Question About Sobriety and the First F2F Meeting
Like most people say, if you aren't belligerent and disruptive and you feel you can't make it through a day to get to a meeting sober, go drunk. But listen to what you hear....a look for the commonalities, not the differences. That's the key. People are all different and have different levels they c...

Restarting the Steps? and Step 5 Question
Hey all, So I have been away from the rooms for like 9 months, I think it might be good for me to start the steps all over again...I need a sponsor and just started going back to new meetings, so I don't really know anyone yet to ask.... That said, for Step 5 -- have are people's thoughts on this, d...

Re: A Return to Sanity?
As to my medallion, I might attend a meeting I used to go to in my old neighborhood on Thursday night and ask someone there to present my 1 year...the guy that did my 1 month...I know I haven't seen them in 9 months, but I think they'd be happy that I was still sober and going back to the rooms.

Re: A Return to Sanity?
Congrats on your time Angry...By all means pick up your chip....We do that to show the newcomer this works. I do have one question for you. I'm curious if you have worked the 12 steps with a sponsor as they are laid out in the book? Up to step 4 -- I was about to do 5 and strayed due to depression ...

Re: A Return to Sanity?
To be honest I have been struggling with bipolar disorder since I quit drinking....but depression stopped me from going to meetings....now I am on hypo-manic cycle thanks to meds.
That said....it's time to go back to meetings.

A Return to Sanity?
Hey all, I have been gone for a good 6 months probably....not sure how long exactly since my last post/login. Either way...hI! I am back and still sober after 1 year and nearly 4 months....but I stopped going to the rooms shortly after the new year....I was struggling with depression and all that an...

Re: Alcohol free beer, wine etc
I completely agree -- there was a time that I tried moderation, I a regular beer for every two NAs, yeah....nope...nothing worked....eventually I gave up on the NAs....and everything but AA.

Missed a few Bdays
But I though I'd check in say I am still sober after 9 months now...
Hi to those who remember me from early days on here...seems a lifetime ago.
