Re: 6 days sober

Rob, There are people who only drink Friday night, Saturday, Sunday that can't stop after one. They do not consider themselves alcoholic. My brother in-law was in the USCG as a shore based radio operator. He worked 4 days on, 3 days off. Didn't drink the 4 days he worked but drank like a fish the ot...

Re: Spiritual not religious not

I also have thought, why not simply replace the written word "GOD" in AA literature with "Higher Power". The GOD stuff is a turn off to many, many. I suspect in future years this will become more so. Only a third of the world's population is Christian.

Group Differences

I regularly attend 6 different meetings. All within a 14 mile radius. That is saying something for the very rural area I live in. Of course I see many of the same faces at the different meetings. I know many of them from when I fist went to AA 5 years ago. There are very minor differences in each me...

AA Cliches,Slogans,Platitudes

Even at the worst of my drinking I never started till late afternoon. However I certainly found myself often thinking about it during the course of the day. Now I do not think about a drink rather I have endless streams of thinking about the subject of this post. Like a song that you just can't get ...

Re: Science & Spirituality

This is free therapy outside the rooms. Just what I need to continue what I learn in the rooms. I love it. I check in a couple times a day. A couple of great things for me are 1)Respondents stay on topic 2) I don't know if some of it is "cross talking" but I love the respectful exchange of ideas, th...

Re: Science & Spirituality

Duke,

You know after I wrote that bit about celestial navigation, I realized the BB, 12x12, meetings was similar. The words are meaningless without action, action, action thence understanding. No offense taken. We are all here to hear.

Re: Science & Spirituality

Good luck to you vermonter. If you find a solution other than admitting, accepting and changing a life of self-will run riot let us know what it is, would you? For me, the fourth step was the beginning of this understanding and my continued journey in this program has been growing in that understan...

MY FIRST CHAIR

I am now 82 days sober! I first entered the rooms 5 years ago. I wiped out a State Trooper vehicle! The court did not require me to go to meetings. The Crash course did require me to see a alcohol counselor. I had to go a minimum of 6x. OR until the counselor gave me a green light. I figured going t...

Re: Science & Spirituality

I am so very happy for all the replies. There are always different solutions to the same problem. My problem is alcohol! The story about the arrow was great. I will share that at my next meeting. I understand it is an analogy. A very good one. But would not it have been great if the questions were a...

Re: Science & Spirituality

I have completed my first 4th Step. I have shared it with 2 people. One has 52 yrs sobriety!!!!!!!!!!! I spent a week writing it out. It was very honest. He thought it was great. The other was with my sponsor who ironically had been my family doctor for many years. I listed many of the positive thin...

Re: Science & Spirituality

I have a great sponsor. I am working the steps. The meetings I go to have a lot of old timers. I respect them tremendously. I am old enough to realize the sage advise/suggestions of what amounts to hundreds of years of first hand experience. I see/feel the honesty, commitment, and love of these old ...

Science & Spirituality

I am having a lot of difficulty with step 4. Sure I have some resentments. Sure I have some fears. Sure I have some character defects. BUT what mortal does not? I have been very fortunate. I am 68 years old. A college graduate. Rose to the top of my profession. Never have been to de-tox, jail, never...

Treasurers Report

The meetings I go to are usually attended by 18-30 people. The basket is of course passed around. Most attendees make a $1 contribution for rent, coffee, cookies, books etc. Each meeting has a treasurers report. It never gives any details ie: amount of money in the fund, breakdown of expenses, money co...

Re: How can i expect to feel in my first 30 days without a d

EVERY ONE IS DIFFERENT! My first 30 days were pretty easy. I had been drinking a pint of gin each evening. That's 16 ounces! Within a few days I was sleeping much, much better. My bowel movements became more regular and not loose. I also simply felt better because I knew I was doing the right thing....

The Chosen

Is it written anywhere that AA members are "chosen"? This was brought up at a open discussion meeting last night of about 2 dozen people. Overwhelmingly the respondents did not like the word.
